This meter is a novelty. I bought it at an electronics flea market years ago. I bought it mainly because it is strange and it sat on my shelf for years as a conversation piece. It does work. If you apply DC current to it, it will give a readout, from what I remember it takes in the 10's of mA to read full scale. It does have a small crack on one corner and a mounting post it broken off. I could be used as another type of meter if you take it apart and replace the"buy/sell" with numerals. Otherwise it is just an interesting conversation piece. This auction is for a vintage Simpson Load Type Battery Tester Voltmeter Model 245. Made by the Simpson Electric Company of Chicago. Illinois, U.S.A. Its case, measuring about 5" x 3" x 2" deep. Is made from red bakelite. The DC voltage ranges are: 2 V, 4 V, 8 V, 50 V, 100 V. And 150 V. The higher voltage ranges are for"A" and"B" batteries found in vacuum tube radios. If desired. An internal load can be applied to the battery under test. For example. The 2 V range has a resistance of 2 Kohms with LOAD OFF, but 7 ohms with LOAD ON. This load resistance increases as the voltage range increases. The LOAD ON setting should be used briefly as it quickly drains a battery and generates heat inside the tester case. We are not really sure what this does exactly. But when we plugged it in and turned the knobs, it did something. Needle movement was fluid, knobs turn freely and easily- if I had to bet my life on it, I'd say this works- if you should find otherwise, we'll happily take it back within the 14 day window. This was part of some test equipment we acquired from a marine electronics company that went out of business. Overall, it is in excellent condition, there is just one small blemish in the clear lens seen in the 3rd to last picture, and the labels on the back are coming up a bit. This item to me is very much a mystery item as I have not got a clue what it is! It has been sitting in a cupboard for the last 40 years but is older than that.In I believe a lovely mahogany case. Made by Nalder Bro& Co of Westminster and is No:25.182. All marked on the front.There is on the front which is behind glass a swinging dial that goes from one side to the other.It has a hanging loop on the top as well as 2 dials, maybe to wrap wire around? Two hinges on the side and to open you press a small dome which you also press to close.Inside is a metal oblong piece that has wire wrapped around it.I think the screws attaching the front to the face are reproduction ones.Also on the face approx. half way around( 9-3 like a clock) are numbers from 90 up to 0(12 o'clock position) and again to the other side.It measures 3 1/2 inches wide ... moreand 3 3/4 inches high not counting the dials on top.A small crack at the base of the glass on the wood. Precision analog equipment like this HP voltmeter is hard to find these days. At any price. I recently opened THREE $100 clamping voltmeters from a leading brand[still factory sealed. to check the fuses because they didn't work. and found they had numerous parts missing from the plant[in China] Unfortunately I need the cash more than I need this meter. Which came from a plant far from China! It needs an uncommon battery. And this model doesn't have ac power cord socket, so I opened the case& checked boards with another working meter. Looks good, components test good, but can't power up to check if may need calibration/adjustment. Actually. There is a fix/work-around for the battery problem. For about $11~$15. You can either mount a 2.5 mm jack in one panel& wire to the battery connections. Or snake the power supply cord in through a 2 mm hole& strip off the jack& wire directly. I prefer the jack method. So the power supply isn't hanging from the box all the time, but either way works for FAR less money than even one battery! eBay doesn't appear to be showing my promotional shipping which is: Spend $76 on 1 or more items[bids or buy it now] and shipping is free.

This is a vintage General Electric clamp-on a m meter and voltmeter with a rotating scale in working used condition. It comes with its original leather case in somewhat rough shape but serviceable. The leads have been soldered to the base of the meter- don't know if this was original or a modification. But have just tested them and they do function. This is a heavy duty piece of equipment.
