This is a modular. 1.25” 1.5-3x barlow lens made by the renowned Harry Siebert. The magnification can be easily changed to four different points between 1.5x and 3x by changing the order of the mounted lenses and precision spacing elements. I bought it from the Siebert website years ago. But only briefly used it in the field, and have stored it carefully. It’s in very good condition, with pristine optics. The housing has some faint scratches, which can be seen best in the picture where all the pieces are together into one long assembly. I called Mr. Seibert recently to confirm the specs in relation to what he currently has up for sale on his website. Although the housing says 1.5x-3.5x. Harry told me that as it turned out, this model peaked at about 3x, perhaps a bit over, so he renamed and relabeled the ones he has made since to reflect ... morethis. I spoke in detail with him, describing exactly what I had, and discussing the configurable elements of the lens. He confirmed that this barlow is functionally identical to"model F" currently listed on his site. And that available magnifications are 1.5x, 2x, 2.5x, and 3x(+a bit probably on the last one) depending on how the elements are assembled. Detailed instructions for the model F barlow are here. Here's a Hastings triplet loupe I bought from Edmund Optics/Scientifics about 15 years ago. In those days it was $35; now it's $75! I'm more of a microscope guy. So I'm just not using it enough to look at it differently than as something to sell. Closed, it's 1-3/4" long, 15/16" thick, and 1-1/4" wide. Working distance is 1.25" and the field of view just over 1" Smoke free home. Bragging points on this item(enjoy the lecture. 1. It really is a 7x Hastings triplet. Basuch and Lomb. Edmunds, and Belomo are affordable names to trust(Japanese and European models are good too, just cost more) and each has their followers. If you didn't know, Hastings triplets are three elements bonded together(the picture of the lens out of the holder shows the"joints" between the three elements) Do some ... morereading online; 7x and 10x are really quite sufficient for handheld magnifiers. When I bought this 7x, I was warned that 20x is usually dissappointing for first time users, the narrow field and short working distance being problems: 20x is a 1/2" focal length and about half of that is occupied by the thick lens you are holding, so you end up right on top of the object.
