American Bankers Dust Proof Time Lock Safe Vault 3 Illinois 15 Jewel Movements
A. Circa 1906. Banker's Dustproof began in 1906 as a subsidiary of Victor Safe and Lock Company. Maker of the"Cannonball" model of safe; one of the most popular safes made and was a late entry into the time lock business. The clean lines in the manner of the emerging popular deco style of the day is reflected in the design. Around 1902 with the sale of E. Howard& Co. to the Keystone Watch Case Company, E. Howard exited the time lock business. Therefore, unlike most time lock companies that used either E. Howard or Seth Thomas movements, this company used 18-size Model#4 pocket watch movements supplied by the Illinois Watch Company. The movements had a separate crystal covering the watch movements much like on a conventional pocket watch providing exceptional protection from contamination compared to other time lock movements. ... moreMosler Safe Co. was another company that used movements supplied by Illinois Watch Company. This was probably not coincidental since Banker's disappeared as a brand in 1915 and Mosler appeared in 1916 based on designs very similar to that of Bankers. This example contains an automatic bolt motor wound separately by the winding square below the first time lock to the left. Bankers was a short-lived company that never achieved a significant production. This example with the glass aperture was their earliest version. The door has"Patent Pending" indicating that this was made very early in the production run. About four of these are known to have survived. 5.75"w x 5.25" h x 2.75"d. Case#418. Movements#2052426, 2052981, 2622898. file 126 B. Circa 1909. Same as above but with solid door. The solid door design was introduced shortly after introduction and is a bit more common. Signed by Mary and L.H. Hershfield on reverse. Lewis H. Hershfield was born in Oneida County, New York, on August 21, 1836. After spending a few years in St. Louis, Missouri, working for a wholesale notion house, he moved to Leavenworth, Kansas, in 1859. He stayed there only briefly, moving on west to follow the Pikes Peak gold rush to Colorado with an ox train of goods. Hershfield remained in Central City, Colorado, until 1864 when Montana's gold rush called him north. In Salt Lake City he loaded 26 wagons with trade goods and travelled to Virginia City, arriving July 3, 1864. He sold his merchandise to Monroe Salisbury for gold dust which he used ... moreto set up a gold trading business. This he eventually formalized as the banking house of L.H. Hershfield& Co. When the gold excitement shifted to Helena, Hershfield left his partner A. Hanauer in control of their Virginia City business in November 1865, and centered his own efforts in establishing a bank in Helena. At first he located his Helena bank on Bridge Street, but as that location declined in importance he opened a branch bank on Main Street. Thus for a brief period during 1867, L.H. Hershfield& Co. operated three banks. However, the Bridge Street office was closed in late 1867 and the Virginia City office in August 1868. In 1867 Lewis Hershfield's younger brother Aaron Hershfield came to Helena to work in the bank. The following year, when Hanauer closed the Virginia City office, Aaron was brought into the business as a full partner to replace Hanauer, and the name of the business was changed to L.H. Hershfield& Bro. Lewis served as president and Aaron as cashier until Aaron resigned in 1895. In 1882 the Hershfields received a national charter for their bank under the name Merchants National Bank, with an increased capitalization of $150,000. They also b

Official Report from the World's Congress of Bankers and Financiers to the World's Fair of 1893. Chicago. This is a fairly scarce book. I have only seen a couple of examples in the many years I have collected memorabilia from the fair. The interior of the book is in excellent condition(no stains, rips or tears) There is some separation to the cover on the interior of the book. The spine is tight. There is some shelf wear and slight scuffing to the cover. There are no interior photos. Since the year was 1893 and the country was in a financial depression, there are number of interesting discussions regarding the silver and gold standards for currency. There are a variety of state reports on the status of the ... morebanking industry, etc. Interesting view point from the movers and shakers of the Gilded Age of our country. This book is a must for anyone who is a student of finance and banking at this time in the country and in Chicago.

1910 New Haven bankers calander clock very nice case and dose run,,,
New Haven Clock Co. New Haven Conn, BANK" calendar model, long drop embossed oak school clock, 8 day time mvt in oak case with 12" dial, spring driven. C. 1910. original hands and pendulum, stenciling with 75% of the label withThis clock. It was started and will run was run for a short time also this was from a person that collected clocks and worked on them. The dial is in good shape. I the case is a very nice color and the door has original glass. Item will be insured when shipped. These clocks can sell for over 275 to 395 the clock is over 33 tall and 18 across the face of the clock. Not refinished as I can tell looks as if paper dial was replaced at some point in time but looks like with a original New Haven one. The glass on the face has been replaced but other than that looks like original from start to now. Posted with
