From google searches i believe this is a sears/craftsman transit. Comes in old box with strap. No markings on box or transit. Also comes with Sperry Sun. Some sort of eyeglass? Also comes with plum bob made in USA. Says No 1 MF CO 2 in a half oz. I think the transit is brass as a magnet does not stick to it. Box is worn and transit is in very good condition. Glass eye piece moves up and down with pull knob. A couple marks on eyepiece but can't notice when looking through. Has 2 levels on it. I cannot begin to know how to use this instrument but I can explain what I see. of course the end cap comes off and there is a little button you slide over to see through the scope. the level works just fine. the wood base is not cracked but it is aged wood slightly darker at leg bottoms the middle sections there is also remnents of a leather strap on one leg that was used to bundle the legss together. Here we have an older Berger transit level or builders level. I would estimate the manufacture date to be mid fifties or early sixties. You are bidding on the instrument and original wooden case only. The case or box is in great shape. Good wood and hinges work freely. The leather strap is broken, but present. It also has the original plumb bob for centering over control point. The instrument itself is in apparent good working condition also. I did not set it up and turn a level loop to check it out. But the bubble looks good, the cross hairs are present and clear. The optics look clear and the focal adjustment works well. This instrument would be great for either a collector or for actual home or utility construction. I think it would make a great conversation piece in the office of an engineer or construction guy.

You are bidding on a circa 1965 Sears and Roebuck(Craftsman) Level and Transit. This includes the Level/Transit in a beautiful. Well made, original box with the original Plumb Bob. Additionally with the transit is the original Tripod. All of the original documents are with it. The Manual of Instructions. The parts list, a brochure showing all the available sears surveying instruments. And the original mail in warranty card. This package is just as if you had just purchased it. Up for bid is the vintage/antique ENGINEERING/ SURVEYING TRANSIT LEVEL/ SPOTTING SCOPE by W. L.E. GURLEY in Troy. N.Y. circa the middle to late 1800's, as seen in the pictures/ as described in the title. Manufacturer's markings found atop the tripod attachment piece(see pics) NO serial number found at base and level positioned below the scope(indicating a pre-1900's model) From my research, I am confident that this is a very early(possibly 1st or 2nd, ever) model dating as far back as 1860. I also believe that it is one of, if not the largest/longest Gurley ever made(see below for dimensions and weight) I am pleased to be able to say that it is in shockingly superb used/vintage/antique condition with NO major defects whatsoever. Optics are clear and adjust/focus like new. Level works perfectly with a nice large/wide bubble for ... moreprecision levelling. All knobs work good/great(some alittle tight but nothing a squirt of oil wouldn't instantly remedy) and are incredibly sensitive/accurate! NO scratches, cracks or chips to either lens/glass. I sort of in awe of this amazing piece of science& technological history.an engineering masterpiece and marvel of its time. Furthermore, beyond its practical use& functionality, it is an aesthetically stimulating work of art that would command attention and intrigue on any shelf, bookcase or desk!
