Antique DAVID WHITE TRANSIT#11360-S circa 1900. Focuses, level cracked& dry The transit is good for 100 plus years. Mechanically sound. Focus is sharp, no bubble in level as it is cracked and dry. With this replaced it should be functional. Some white paint is on it. Latches still release to remove the scope from the leveler mechanism. The graphics are still clear. As it is early it is stamped with the brand, manufacturing local and serial number, not having a plate attached. A study of serial numbers with known dates suggests this one was made just one side or the other of 1900. The box has deteriorated with one side gone and the other end is partly missing, but it has done a good job of taking care of the transit. If you study the pictures you will see distinct differences between this early models bracketing and the later models. I ... morehave only see one older on eBay. As it is. It makes a great decorative historical piece.

This set of construction leveling equipment dates from the 1950s and was made by the David White Instrument Company. Included are a level transit. A leveling rod, and a tripod. Everything appears to be in good cosmetic shape, however, the tripod's plumb bob has been replaced with a spark plug by the previous owner. The original box and paperwork are included with the level transit. This set could be put use as intended or simply as industrial decor. The leveling rod measures 6'8" and 7" wide. The tripod stands at about 5 ft tall and is 4" in diameter. The level transit is 10.5" L x 4 1/4" W x 4 1/4" T and its box measures 11.5" L x 5.5" W x 5 1/4" T. Telescope measures about 12 inches-not sure of power or its age. It has the serial no. 70425 on the metal tag and two bubble levels under the tube. Instrument appears to have been well cared for. But it is a little dusty, and case is scuffed and has some paint spatter. I am not familiar with this type of device. The telescope portion focuses and one can see through it. This listing is for(1) transit as seen in the pictures above. This is a nice vintage piece. We believe it to be a model# 8090 David White Transit but we are not 100% sure. There are no marking on the item that we can see and most of the sticker is missing from the case. In good condition given its age. Shows signs of use and storage from the years. Mostly on the outer hard case but a little on the instrument itself. Please see the pictures for a better look. There appears to be a brown burn type mark on the inside of the case that lines up with the mark on the instrument as well. Not sure what this is exactly. I see no scuffs on the paint on the instrument. Will come off the base to go on a tripod. The black base does have scuffs and discoloration. The case does have a crack on one side and is quite scuffed up. Instrument is fine. The case does have a a number on the top which is M 714453 which matches the base of the instrument. David White Transit - Oak Tri Pod - Box 1933-34
For your consideration is a very hard to find complete David White survey transit along with it's original oak tri-pod and storage box. All of the items are in great condition with the transit itself having two labels reading"Tennet- Kassel" It was last serviced on 11- 84 and I was told that it works great. The tri-pod is made of oak and is a thing of beauty in itself. It has all of it's original equipment including very nice step sections for securing to the ground. The box has the original brass label that reads: David White Manufacturer of Whites Improved Surveying Instruments and Engineers Field Supplies Milwakee. It has it's original weathered leather strap.Brass corners,front locks and great dovetails on it's sides. The serial number is 8986 which places it being made between 1933 and 1934. This is a Survey Transit Level made by David White/Path Instruments. The model is a S-207W and i believe it has an auto level. This was used by my grandpa in his surveying business and has een in storage for the last many years. It looks to be in great ahspe and the lenses are clean, i am sure it still works or he wouldnt have kept it(i don't really know how to use it) It has the number 2R248 on it and the case still has the original stickers on it too. It has a QC"PASSED" sticker on it from when my grandpa kept it certified. It comes with the lens cap, tool kit, and even some of the factory papers from when it was new. This is a great collectors peice. I have some of the older heavy wood stands for these as well.
