Architects, ship builders, surveyors, local authorities and schools. They created a large national trade and extensive export business and were appointed as a contractor to Her Majesty’s Government. During the early years of the twentieth century Thorntons excelled in the design and development of new drawing equipment with many patents and design awards. This level has been stripped. Cleaned and polished to a high sheen finish. Some you see for sale have all there lacquer removed to show the brass of to its full extent this would be possible as this is a solid brass instrument. This instrument would make an ideal long service or retirement gift for an Engineer or Surveyor. Or put on show in an Engineering or Architects office. The instrument optics still focus and work, the cross hairs have been replaced and everthing works as it should and it still has its removable lens cap. It comes with the original box probably why it has lasted so long and is in such good condition, one of the hinges has seen better days and unfortunarly the key and leather strapping are long gone The instrument is not calibrated for use. But i see no reason why it couldn't be if you wished to use it as a working instrument. This is a complete vintage transit belonged to my father. He brought this back from overseas after world war 2 was over. I cannot find any name on it but it does have a# L- 1386 on it. My father was a farmer and I remember using this transit to level the fields with when I was boy. It looks to be in very nice condition. The transit tripod and target are included. This listing is for a vintage Wild Heerbrugg NAK 2 Survey Level- Transit complete with carrying case. We do not know the exact age of this NAK 2. But it is probably from the late 1970s to early 1980s. It has been in our closet for more than 30 years. It appears to be in good working order. Up for auction is this VINTAGE C.L.BERGER AND SONS SURVEYING TRANSIT LEVEL WITH WOODEN CASE.Optics are in good clear condition.No.61588 dated 12/14/1953 on inspection tag. Included is the orginial manual of instructions,for use and care of the unit.Parts diagram and cross section view of unit level. No scuffing or loss of finish to level. The carrying case is dove tailed and in good condition but missing it's leather shoulder strap,measures 12"long 8" high and 4" wide. The transit level is in good working order. Antique Bostrom Brady Survey Level Wooden Tripod *No Transit*
Antique Wooden Survey Level Tripod by Bostrom-Brady out of Atlanta. GA has a patent 1905& 1906 stamped on the Brass top. It does need to be cleaned. No Transit comes with it. I believe the legs are made of oak. It stands 60" tall and the brass top measures 4-3/4" across. If you own an older transit and need a tripod this item may work for you.

Very Early DAVID WHITE surveyors level with original paint on brass. Unit is complete, serial# 2278. According to information I found at surveyhistory.org it is pre 1920. See photo of serial# list. Includes original finger jointed case and wood tripod. Both have been repainted at some point. Leather strap on tripod is in place but broken. In very good condition for its age. Some paint loss but no deep scratches or dents in the brass. Cross-hairs are intact, Brass lens cover has age cracks. Focus mechanism works smoothly. This transit just had a calibration check and is still dead on and did not need any adjustments. The transit/level was purchased new and still looks and works like brand-new. This unit was only used occasionally for quality assurance inspections and has never been in daily construction use. All adjustments and rotation are extremely smooth. Included with the transit is the original plastic case nearly new condition. Locating plumb bob, instruction manual, calibration procedure, and the standard metal and wood David White tripod. The tripod has some places where the paint has been scratched off but other than that is fully functional.

This a very clean wooden surveying rod that was used in field. The wood is in great shape and the paint is clean and bright. Two sights(large red& white oval and small black rectangle) can be adjusted via a knob on the side. The back of the Rod is stamped"W. L. E. GURLEY" from Troy. NY. Rare Antique C.L. BERGER Brass Oak Wood Tripod Transit Level Survey Stand Tool
Presented for your consideration is this antique industrial machine age transit level survey wood tripod stand. This is an early tripod constructed of brass and a very fine light oak hardwood. This piece was acquired along with a brass Antique C.L. BERGER& SONS Transit that I also have listed so I believe that may be the manufacturer however I can not locate any manufacturers markings. The C.L. Berger transit was mounted to this tripod and fit great so I am pretty sure it is a C.L. Berger however I can not be certain. Folded up. The entire piece measures approximately 58 inches long. Each of the tapered legs measure approximately 57 inches long. The tapered legs vary from approximately 1 1/8" to 2 1/2" wide. The uppermost brass mount measures approximately 5 inches in diameter and features the majority of its original finish ... morewith minor areas of brass showing through. The legs can be adjusted in or out(but not shortened or lengthened) The bottom pointed metal attachments are strong and intact along with additional foot pegs to allow the user an easier way to steady each leg. The only defect to note is that one of the legs exhibits a split in the uppermost part of the wood. A nice early transit stand this piece would complement any transit rather nicely.

Being offered is a Fabulous Brass Survey Transit With Y Level Produced By Keuffel& Esser Co. New York. Based on the Serial#5089 this instrument was made in 1901. The following patent dates are also found on this piece Oct 13 91. Dec 3 89, Aug 12 90, May 26 91. It is fully functional and there are no scratches to the lenses but there are two tiny anomalies seen on one lens when tilting into the light at some angles(see pictures 10,11) When looking into the scope the images are crystal clear and there is no cloudiness, the two anomalies are not visible. This piece is over 100 years old so it does show some signs of wear and nice original patina. It stands 6" tall, 11 3/4 in length when scope is extended. Please note that I will be starting this auction at an extremely low price as I always do with NO reserve!

The transit is in nice origional condition with normal wear and storage dirt. The transit telescope part is 11 1/2 inches closed up. With transit level flat across it is 13 inches tall and 7 inches across round compass. The transit has 3 levels and numerous adjustments. The box was painted 3 or 4 times and the door was nailed together. I had the box restored to match the transit. The transit and box weigh about 15 pounds each. This is a used Keuffel and Esser survey transit level. It is in good cosmetic condition. Shows some wear from use including a few scratches. Movements work.there is one spot that is a crack. It is under the tightening screw for the front element of the scope. Tightens down fine. But see photo. When you look through the viewfinder it focuses well. There are spots visible. External glass lenses were cleaned so these would be on an internal element, I think. Manufacturer& Repair Scientific& Engineering Instruments 922 Pine St. St Louis 1. Mo. It is in very very good condition for its age and the brass is in good shape also.
