TWO HEATHKIT GR-24 VINTAGE 1967 LEATHER CASE TRANSISTOR RADIOS with MANUAL
Up for auction are two Heathkit model GR-24 AM transistor radios. They measure approximately 8-3/4” L x 7” H x 4” D. One of them works well. With good reception. The other one(pictured on the left in photo#1) has a squealing sound as it is tuned. Including even on received stations. Thus. The latter radio is sold for parts or repair(ferrite loopstick could be used for a crystal radio project) The included GR-24 manual should help if one wishes to repair the radio. Since it includes voltage readings on the schematic + alignment instructions. These are 6 transistor superheterodyne radios. With a 4 x 6 inch speaker, slide rule tuning and employs a tuned RF stage, i.e. TRF, by employing a 3-gang variable capacitor(2 for RF, 1 for the oscillator) It appears that both radios were build by the same person. Who installed 9 volt snap cap connectors ... morein place of the original 6-D cell holders. Cosmetically. This vintage Heathkit Amateur Transmitter Model DX-60B is in excellent physical condition. I replaced the 2 leaking filter capacitors with new 47uf 450VDC capacitors and all tubes tested within specs. I applied power and using a resistive load of a 100 watt light bulb. I was able to load and tune an 80 meter band 3.7225 MHz crystal, position 2. The light bulb got brighter and dimmer. As I tuned the transmitter in the CW mode. A 7.177 crystal is installed in position 4. No other crystals. The first is an AR-1500A Receiver which was a kit he bought brand new back in the day and built it himself. He built it in 1975 and remembers using it with a guitar speaker out on his ice rink that winter playing"The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" by Gordan Lightfoot. He had a friend who lived a mile away and could hear the music playing. The friend came looking for the source of the music. Once he found it he ... moreturned back and headed home. Found my friend in School and shared the story with him. The unit is in premo condition and sounds just like new. The second is a matching Heathkit Audio Scope also known as a vectorscope. This is a model AD1013 and this is in excellent running condition as well. I will talk about both units below. As an added bonus. He was able to find the assembly manual for the AR-1500A but it is in rough shape. He was not able to find the rest of the paperwork or schematics for either unit. He did also find and I will include the original Heathkit meter which you would build and use through the build process of assembling one of these. It has been tested and still works great. He only used it for a few years as he bought a Heathkit AA-1640 shortly after. He used the AR-1500A for a while as a Preamp and Tuner for the AA-1640 amp. Then eventually he bought a new separate preamp which he used with the AA-1640 amp by 1980. He only pulled out this AR-1500A only round the holidays to play Christmas Music for his family. This is a vintage Heathkit FM Stereo Signal Generator. It is Model#IG-112. On the front it has the following knobs. Switches, plug ins: 19 KC Pilot Level AC Off/On; Function; Deviation Sweep Width Composit Level Audio Level; Frequency; Composite Sig/Audio; IF Marker; RF Out; RF Attentuator with 3 Outs& 3 20 DB switches; Center RF Frequency. On the back it has the following: 38 KC Sync; Pilot Level; Balance; SCA Frequency. Has red stamp of Wells Radio on back. This was my friend's Grandfathers, and has been in storage for over 15 years. It could use a good cleaning from being in storage. I don't know much about these. This unit powers up, as you can see from the pictures, but have not been able to fully test.
