The LUMBER CAR Jim Beam Bourbon Decanter. Regal China, empty The Jersey& Western Railway LUMBER CAR was one in a series of finely detailed-antique railroad decanters. The LUMBER CAR bottle represented the type of rail car adapted for use in hauling lumber from the saw mills to wherever America was growing and building. Contained 80 proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Empty now. Plastic and Regal China. Dated 1986. About 11 inches long. 6 inches high, and 5.5 inches wide, in the original box. Nice addition to your collection. Or a good start! HISTORY. Jim Beam Bourbon whisky has been distilled since 1795 in Clermont. Kentucky. In order to be labeled ... morebourbon, whiskey must be aged for at least two years in charred-oak barrels and at least 51% of the grain used has to be corn. While bourbon can be made anywhere in the United States, only distilleries that are located in Kentucky can include"Kentucky" on their labels. Bourbon does not age once it's bottled, as many wines do, so the flavor of bourbon bottled in 1951 would be the same as bourbon bottled in 2005. In 1952 Jim Beam started a Specialty Bottles line of bourbon. Where the whiskey was sold in nontraditional bottles. Bottles were made in both glass and ceramic. In 1955 the Beam Company and the Regal China Company in Illinois hooked up to produce the now famous Jim Beam ceramic bottles and decanters. Demand was such as the years passed that they created bottles specifically for large companies. They also started issuing a special bottle yearly during the Christmas season. The size is approx. 4" x 8" And the thermometer works. Has a glass cover over the picture. The frame is made of metal. There is a 1950 pull-down calendar with one page for each month on the back. For auction is an original late 1920's Ives 197 standard gauge(Wide Gauge) lumber car in the light green with black trim color combination. This car has late trucks with brass journals and no brake wheel. And the couplers are the late'snake track pull' couplers. It is all original paint and parts, nothing broken or replaced(no repairs or repro parts) The paint has many small nicks/scratches from playwear. The car is rubber stamped with"The Ives Railway Lines 197" in black on both sides. The wood load is the load that was found with the car, and we believe it is the original load. This tape measure is made by Walsco as marked on the metal tape. The front of the tape measure features advertising for the"Hebbron-Nigh Lumber Co. Santa Cruz. Calif. Phone 25. A great vintage piece.especially with the 2 digit phone number listed, which certainly dates the piece. The tape measure is 2" in diameter and has a 6 foot metal tape. The tape does show some moderate wear and bending to the first 6" of tape or so. Plus there is a very large bend at the 51" mark of the tape. It still pulls out and retracts quite easily.but doesn't stay locked very well and tends to retract by itself without pressing the button. This is for a vintage 8 page brochure from West Coast Lumber for homes built from douglas fir. West Coast Hemlock, Wester Red Cedar and Sitka Spruce. This contains amazing color photos of mid century style homes. Undated, but ca. 1950s or possibly 1960s. One photo includes a family barbecuing, and another features two women sitting on the lawn at a table outside of a home that looks more like a motel! Very cool! Staple bound(despite it only being 8 pages, counting covers) and staples are clean. Light crease to the upper area throughout causing the upper area to not sit flat(it curls upwards some) but this will likely flatten over time. Really neat! 4 of the 8 pages are shown below.
