This is a beautiful Singer Sewing Machine. The Model plate says"AA141585" According to my research. This indicates that it was made on or during a production run on Nov. 11th, 1924. The bentwood case is complete. The lock functions, but is a little worn. It latches and closes, and can be picked up by handle, though I only tried for a second) Inside the case, the original accessories box, oiler, and hand crank are stored, and the stowing hardware is all in good shape. The varnish on the outside of the case is worn as expected, and there is very light scratching on the top. It also appears that the original power cord is included. I plugged it in, and the light still works. Did not try running the machine, as the belt appears to be dry, but there is no indication that it would not work. This 4-ounce tin shows quite a bit of age-related wear in the form of scratches and missing paint(see my photos for detail) But it has no dents. And still has its little red plastic cap. 1913 Singer Model 30 Hand Crank Sewing Machine Chain Stitch Hard to Find!
Singer Model 30 This is a Singer model 30 sewing machine which was made at the Kilbowie. Scotland factory in 1913, so this year is its 100th birthday. It is a hand crank chain stitch machine and is quite hard to find as 15500 or less were made, and 5000 of those were shipped to Japan. It is larger than the model 20 toy sewing machine. But the head is just slightly smaller than the model 24 chain stitch. It is less than 12" wide, about 10" to the top of the spool pin and about 7-1/4" deep. Before being packed for shipping it weighs a little over 11 pounds, or about the same as a featherweight. One of the things I think is interesting is that when the presser foot is lifted it rotates out of the way. Making it easy to see your needle and fabric. Didn't some of the toy sewing machines do that? I think it is complete. It even ... morehas a seam guide. I oiled it and it runs pretty nice. A little bit jerky, like sewing on a toy machine, but not bad. It made a surprisingly nice stitch but I had to skip the thread guide that is below the front tension, it made the thread way too tight, I went from the front tension directly to the left tension and the stitch was decent. I'm sure if you play with it you can get it all figured out. I have never seen a manual for this model, but it isn't too hard to see where the thread should go. When I took it apart to see the serial number there were remains of a red rubber gasket in between the two parts. I took the pieces off since they were crumbling. You can see some red in the photo. A new gasket of some sort would be helpful in preventing the machine from moving on the base. Silly, but it is only secured with one screw, what did they think would happen? Condition: There is some loss to the decals and some chips to the paint. Most are on the base. Some of the paint on the base is a little bumpy. A very rare. One of a kind original menu, plus a Flamingo Room dinner insert menu dated August 27th, 1952 from the FLAMINGO HOTEL CASINO restaurant in Las Vegas. Front of the menu is autographed by one of the greatest female jazz vocalists, Connee Boswell. Born in 1907 Connee Boswell passed in 1976 of stomach cancer. Connee Boswell is also considered to have been a major influence on Ella Fitzgerald's singing. Connee was originally spelled Connie but she changed it to Connee in the forties after she developed paralysis in her wrist and hand. Dotting the'i' when signing autographs became to painful for her. Connee was in a wheel chair from the age of 3 reportedly caused by polio. She had two sisters and in the early years they performed together as the Boswell Sisters. When her sisters married and quit singing in the mid 30's ... moreConnee performed solo. Besides a great jazz vocalist, Connee was a songwriter, composer, arranger and actress. Connee was a favorite duet partner of Bing Crosby and they frequently sang together on radio and recorded several hit records in the 30's and 40's. On the 1st of August 1952, the same month and year Connee Boswell autographed this menu, she recorded two of her finest recordings with Artie Shaw. Connee appeared on numerous radio shows and that was the reason she was in Las Vegas at the time she autographed this menu. She was appearing as a guest on a radio show hosted by Jack Benny that originated from Los Angeles but was doing the show in Las Vegas that week. The Flamingo Hotel was opened by mobster Bugsey Seigel on December 26th. 1946(Siegel was murdered 6 months later) The Flamingo had 105 rooms but since the rooms were not ready for guests when it opened guests took their winnings and went elsewhere to stay. The Flamingo lost $300,00 the first week it opened. Jimmy Durante headline the opening along with Xavier Cugat band.
