Sap must first be collected and boiled down to obtain pure syrup without chemical agents or preservatives. Maple syrup is made by boiling between 20 and 50 litres(5.3 and 13 US gal) of sap(depending on its concentration) over an open fire until 1 litre(0.26 US gal) of syrup is obtained, usually at a temperature 4.1 °C(7.4 °F) over the boiling point of water. Syrup can be boiled entirely over one heat source or can be drawn off into smaller batches and boiled at a more controlled temperature. Boiling the syrup is a tightly controlled process, which ensures appropriate sugar content. Syrup boiled too long will eventually crystallize, whereas under-boiled syrup will be watery, and will quickly spoil. The finished syrup has a density of 66° on the Brix Scale(ahydrometric scale used to measure sugar solutions) The syrup is then filtered to remove sugar sand, crystals made up largely of sugar and calcium mulate. These crystals are not toxic, but create a"gritty" texture in the syrup if not filtered out. Here is a lot of 3 galvanized maple syrup buckets and 20 assorted tree taps. 2 of the buckets are exactly the same. The other bucket is slightly taller. 2 taps are spile type. 2 look like a mix between spile type and traditional type. 4 are made of aluminum. The other 12 appear to be galvanized steel. These items are vintage from early 1900's. They came out of our old barn. Somebody made a lot of Western New York maple syrup with these over the years. Call these cast iron items whatever you may want.spiles, taps, or spigots, they are all one and the same, serving the same practical use in maple sugar farming. Each of these 12 items is 74 mm, or just under 2 15/16 inches in length. One side of each of these taps displays the maker's name WARNER, while the reverse side displays the legend: PAT-D. One hundred years ago, the maple sugaring farmers would drill a hole in the trunk of a maple sugar tree, drive one of these cast iron taps into the hole, then hang a wooden bucket on the tap's hook, to catch the maple tree's sweet sap, as the fluid flowed ... moreoff the end of the spigot. It takes about 40 gallons of sap, to make one gallon of the sweet elixir commonly known as maple syrup. WARNER type spikes are no longer being used by large maple sugaring farmers, but these antique cast iron collectibles could surely serve a person very well, if one only wanted to tap a dozen maple sugar trees, and make a gallon or two of maple syrup for themselves? Carvin USA BOLT Stratocaster Guitar(Unknown Year) Great Value! This guitar has some bumps and bruises but it plays and stays in tune to perfection and has great versatility and tonal character. It features a very fast ebony fretboard with medium jumbo frets on top of a maple neck(almost no fret wear) The neck width is 1.69 and has a 12" radius. The tuners are Carvin and work flawlessly(they are black and chrome. As are the saddles on the bridge) The body appears to be alder wood. The original owner sanded off the Carvin logo and discarded the truss rod cover. The pickups are high quality Carvin AP11's and have adjustable pole pieces with a coil tap on the humbucker. It utilizes a 5 way switch just like a Fender strat, the tap is on a toggle next to it. The tone is very bright and chime-like with no muddiness or harsh overtones.
