Nice heavy wooden box to protect the instrument. David White Instrument Company level tripod Model 9021. In excellent working condition. Staff gauge with sighting target. The wooden staff gauge is 9 ft 6 inches when fully extended. The numbers are in great condition and fully readable. This is a really nice piece of surveying tool history that is still usable today. Ebay cannot calculate shipping on two packages. One will have the tripod and staff gauge the other will have the transit. Up for bid here is a Berger 1963 Vintage Transit-Level. Complete with the storage/carrying box and Use& Care Instructions! There is also a Parts Ordering Form(not sure if that would do you good to try to order from. Lol! The pics show it to be in pretty good condition! I will note that the leather carrying strap is split in two pieces. I have no idea if the Transit works. Someone is going to have a real treasure on their hands with this one. Either as an incredible keepsake for their home, or perhaps as an investment piece, sure to increase in value. Purchased at an estate sale. I have no history on this item. I was advised this is a transit level, used for surveying. It comes in its original wood box with buckle strap, for security and transport. The orange label on the inside of the lid identifies the Schneider Technical Instrument Corp of NY as the distributor for this Japanese-made Yamatar product#70208. There is a small screwdriver and 2 very thin tools(pin-like) that are included. The level vial is intact with a visible bubble. The transit level, while not new, appears to be in good shape and will greatly benefit from cleaning. The box shows wear and the inside upper rim is sticky as though there might have been an adhesive liner there at one time. This transit would date approx from the last quarter of the 1800's to before 1908 and like many early Gurley instruments carries no serial number. Thus making exact dating difficult. Gurley did not begin to use serial numbers until 1908. Features the"straight" a-frame design of earlier Gurley transit. View is clear and optics are in good condition, and there is one vertical and 3 horizontal crosshairs. All motions move. Some are stiff from non-use, and the compass operation is good with locking feature. The silvered compass face is nice as well with the name and location above the North Fleur d' Leis. The leveling bubbles are all good. The compass needle measures 3.85" The focusing ... moreknob works smoothly and the eyepiece rotates for focusing. The eyepiece also has a shutter. The instrument weighs 8lbs 10oz. alone. Height to the top of the full circle vernier is 11" The main plate measures 6-3/4" across, and the tripod mounting plate measures 3-3/4" across. The length of the telescope is 8" The natural finish brass has developed a gorgeous patina that adds to the attractiveness of this unit. Included with the transit/ level is the original outer wood case with leather covering. The leather covering has seen better days and is significantly deteriorated. See photos. The wood case is in average condition, one of the two hinges for the top has detached, but still in place on the bottom of the box. The original(we think it's original) wood tripod is included as well. The tripod is average to good condition. The wood is intact with no splits, cracks, or missing pieces. The center support spider does seem a little loose, meaning side to side wobble when twisted. In 1908 C. F. Iszard and J. Henry Warren organized the Iszard-Warren Company in Philadelphia to design. Manufacture and sell precision surveying, engineering, and scientific instruments. In 1913 the quickly expanding company became the Warren-Knight Instrument Co. this transit y level was from the original company and produced in 1910, the transit level is in really nice condition and is made of brass and would look really sharp if polished, the clamp that holds the scope/level to the base transit i belive should be a screw and was replaced my vintage brass cotterpins/ that just what i think but not sure but other then that i dont see and issues to mention other then needing a good polish, the tri-pod is in nice condition, the treads that the transit/ level screws to does have a little ding in the treads but the transit level screws to it ... morejust fine,any questions please ask. Vernier in 1 sec.div. This transit/level appears to be a cross between two applications. There are vertical and horizontal circles that indicate a surveying application and the cross scope in axis and micrometer indicates an optical tooling application. The color of the scope shows that it was most likely made for the military which could explain why this instrument would be able to perform in both applications.
