The transit is marked: Model 8080. The case is marked David White- Meridian- Realist. Inc. Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. The transit is in the original metal carrying case which does show minor age wear. It is completely intact and has a ver yawesome look to it! The transit appears to be in good condition. Also. We just recieved this item and it has not been tested for accuracy. The case measures 14-3/4" long. 6" wide and 8-1/4" high. CONDITION: Instrument: Very good condition. There is only minor wear. From use, scratches, etc. but not abuse. See photos) Case: The case does have a few scrapes and scratches on the case but no dents or dings. ANOTHER ONE OF JACK'S AUCTIONS! Well used and with a couple of obvious issues. This is a David White Realist Transit, model TR303. The first obvious issue is the front lens which is VERY cloudy. I've pictured that in my second-to-last picture. It looks as though someone tried to remove the lens. I say that because the two notches that you use to unscrew the ring around the lens have a mark on them. The other obvious issue is that one of the two clear-glass windows that cover the degree markings is missing. That can be seen in my last picture above. Come with its red carrying case that snaps onto the base of it. The instrument is in good vintage condition and the carrying case is solid. The handle is holding fast. Serial number is 106228. Up for bid is a David White Universal transit#8307 serial#221843. A D-W-CO 3 1/2 x 8 survey tripod; a Bostrom A 9-8 leveling stick; and a Keson SR-18-100 fiberglass surveyors rope. These are all functional pieces. There are various scratches, the case has paint on it, the plumb bob is missing, the rope is in an unopened bag. Please ask any questions you might have. These instruments are mostly 19th century. They will be listed here on eBay over the next few days. All will be sold to the highest bidder without reserve. Please see my other listings for the rest of these instruments. This listing is for a sculpturally beautiful 19th century David White Co transit. The instrument has great optics clear and bright. The telescope as shown measures 11 1/2" or 29.2 cm and stands 14 1/2" or 36.8 cm high. The telescope has a fine adjusting knob on the top and a spirit level below. Below the telescope is a compass. The compass reads" DAVID WHITE CO MILWAUKEE, WIS U.S.A. NO. 30511" There are many other adjusting knobs, scales, and ... morelevels. Rather than trying to describe them I will let the photographs do that. Besides the instrument there is also a lens cover, a sunshade and the original stand. The condition of the instrument is excellent. The image through the telescope is right side up and the optics are excellent. The instrument was polished a long time ago and was used as a display in a small private museum. There is some minor darkening and finish inconsistencies as would be expected. An elegant instrument.
