Enough Already. Really. (or, More Snow? We Deny That Reality, And Subsitute Something Greener…)

April 2, 2010, by Tom Chandler 4 comments

I told you spring in the mountains was cruel. It gives you a taste of 60 degree days, and then cruelly opens the door for winter to wander back in – just when you’re thinking of putting away the snow boots.

UPDATE: Several inches of snow have fallen already. Will I be breaking out the tank-like Honda snowblower this afternoon? It’s looking that way. For now, I’m simply refusing to look out the window, though that can’t last forever. Spring, my ass…

Snow Forecast

More snow? Rest of the week don't look too good either...

I know the Undergrounders residing in similarly afflicted areas are happy to join me in the following Underground Green Salute To The Greens of Spring & Summer:

The Underground is well and truly anticipating the greens of spring and summer...

Finally, a Fly Fishing Video That More Than Lives Up to the Hype

March 23, 2009, by Tom Chandler 7 comments

Why is it we need a commercial from a newspaper to truly explore the reasons we fly fish (hint: it involves a bikini):

San Antonio Express – Fly Fishing from Adam Richard Jones on Vimeo.

(found via that guy at Taunted by Waters who has too much time on his hands, but it turns out Moldy Chum had it first. Too bad I don’t do video searches.)

The Post Where We Mix Bikinis, Fishnet Underwear (ark ark), and Fish

Caption contest, and any variation of “So, is that a barracuda in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?” results in immediate disqualification.

Some kind of valuable prize awaits the winner.

Hold Steady, Undergrounders. There’s More to Come

August 22, 2008, by Tom Chandler 1 comment

It’s been a slow week on the Underground. And a pretty damned long one in my office.

I’m going to fish this weekend. But I’m also going to work. Because every once in a while, a writer comes across a project that’s worth a little extra effort – not to mention a little lost fishing time.

Chris Raine on the Upper Sacramento River

I’m going full bore on a new Web project, and because I’m doing the development myself, it means a lot of long, long nights. In fact, my butt’s already flat.

Along the way, I stumbled on a direction for the next phase of the Trout Underground. That won’t come until after my new project is underway, but that’s exciting too.

Everyone enjoy your weekend. I’ve got a lot of work to do, but also may have found a few treats to throw your way in the meantime (and by “treats” I mean bikinis).

See you on the river, Tom Chandler

Scientific Study Proves Bikinis Make Men Stupid (Duh Alert!)

June 21, 2008, by Tom Chandler 11 comments

Frankly, the following Most Significant Scientific Breakthrough So Far This Week helps explain a lot about the Undergrounders:

Science proves that bikinis turn men into boobs – Health- msnbc.com

You may have known this all along, but now it has been demonstrated scientifically: bikinis make men stupid.

This month’s issue of the Journal of Consumer Research features a paper titled “Bikinis Instigate Generalized Impatience in Intertemporal Choice,” which is a neuroeconomist’s (definition in a moment) way of saying that men don’t make good decisions while checking out pretty girls in bikinis.

Not to be rude or anything, but… duh! Men will swerve into a bikini-advertised carwash at the local gas station — despite the fact the car’s still damp from the washing they gave it fifteen minutes before.

Let’s face it; men are animals, and the sooner we admit it, the sooner we can stop attending sensitivity training and start getting back to being the drooling, largely incompetent circus beasts we know we all are.

Need more proof? Despite the fact that the Underground hasn’t received a single lucrative research contract (not that we’d give it back it if we did), we got you to read this whole post, and all we had to do was post a bikini photograph.

(Send lucrative research checks to: The Obvious Research Institute, One Duh Way.)

See you making bad decisions, Tom Chandler.Technorati Tags: bikini, bikini models, intertemporal choice, bikinis make men stupid

It’s Safety First at the Underground: Presenting the Inflatable Bikini

November 26, 2007, by Tom Chandler 4 comments

image At the Underground, we’re nothing if not concerned for the safety of you and your loved ones.

That’s why our heart soared when we saw this critical, potentially lifesaving inflatable bikini personal flotation device.

Just think of the lives that could be saved. We are.

Found via The Goat blog, this baby’s monster, uhh… flotation devices and inflatable booty offer the added benefit of making people want to rescue you (assuming you’re a woman).

While the Underground’s keenly aware that not everyone needs flotation of this magnitude, we applaud the designer for their vision.

Sadly, this exceptional product isn’t yet available for sale, but you can be damned sure we’ll file a high floating report when it is (assuming we notice).
