Blogfish Draws Parallels Between Umpqua, Klamath Woes
By Tom Chandler on Sep 20, 2006 in Environment, Underground Entertainment
Mark at Blogfish continues to create great environmental posts, and his latest is excellent.
He compares the woes of the North Umpqua and the Klamath - tieing both together through the maze of pipes and powerplants operated by the same company.
His Quote of the Day:
Most people do not know about the extensive human plumbing that has drastically altered the upper reaches of the world famous North Umpqua River, renowned for summer steelhead fly fishing. There are actually 7 hydrodams, and around 40 miles of hydropower pipes that nearly dewater the headwater streams and rivers. Typical diverson can be greater than 90% of the flow.
Oy vey.
