We Ship Latest eCast Newsletter, Our Readers Win Fabulous Prizes

April 30, 2009, by Tom Chandler 11 comments

At the Trout Underground, we’re givers, not takers. In fact, I myself recently twice gave my own life so that others could live.

I’m that evolved.

All this could be yours... for free. Signup today.

All this could be yours... for free. Signup today.

That’s why it shouldn’t surprise any of our adoring readers to discover we’re not only giving you free issues of our eCast Newsletter (signup below), but we’re also willing to reward those who read it with free Fabulous Free Prizes that are free and don’t cost you anything.

For free.

This time, we gave away several copies of Fishizzle and Steve Apple’s new Hustle & Fish fly fishing DVD, which has given the fly fishing movie an interesting new twist (we reviewed Hustle & Fish here).

While two of the winners have yet to reply to the happy news emails, Mr. CastingOutLoud – who won the copy of Hustle & Fish – seemed overjoyed, at least in part because he’d won and Underground Fave Writer Smithhammer hadn’t (Mr. Smith had won something here before, though I can’t remember what), which suggests this giving stuff away thing is way more complicated than I originally thought.

[Special Editor's Note: Damn, my original post got all tangled up, so I'm editing it now and want to make it clear that all this - especially Mr. CastingOL's spike-the-football celebratory email  about winning - was purely in good fun , as was my reply here, but our gentle readers wouldn't know that history, so my bad. We return you to our regularly scheduled post.].

Then again, we should have expected little else from an eCast that went out to exactly 333 Undergrounders, which sharp-eyed readers will realize is half the Number of the Beast (666), which further suggests we’re only getting this whole thing about half right.

We’ll try harder, we promise. (Our open rate on the newsletter is about 4x the industry average, so maybe we’re getting it right after all.)

See eCast Now (for Free)

The Inveterate Slackers Undergrounders who haven’t yet registered to receive the Underground’s eCast newsletter delivered (for free) right to their inbox will immediately (and freely) want to do so right now (because it’s free).

You can see the latest issue here (at no cost to yourself).

And you can sign up for it directly below (again, for free).

See you in the next (free) eCast newsletter you cheap bastards, Tom Chandler.

The Next Underground eCast Newsletter Ready to Hatch: Register Now

April 9, 2009, by Tom Chandler No comments yet

The newsletter pupae here at the Underground are putting the next eCast newsletter together, and rather than risk missing the issue – thereby suffering the abject scorn of your friends – we’re giving the slackers who haven’t yet registered you a chance to register now.

Just to sweeten the deal, I’ll be choosing two people at random to receive a copy of Fishizzle (Steve Apple’s first movie) or Hustle & Fish – his new, just-released DVD that’s up for a review very soon. (Taku, your DVD was returned yesterday because some fool sent it to a non-existent address. I blame you mostly, and while I’m working up a rationalization as to why, I’ll re-send it.)

Those who have already registered for the Underground eCast are already eligible to win, so cross your fingers, and – in the tradition of the Undergrounders – get ready to shout “fix” when someone else wins.

This month’s theme? I’m thinking Spring Fever.

See you in your inbox, Tom Chandler

First Underground eCast Newsletter Out: Taku Wins Big!

March 25, 2009, by Tom Chandler 6 comments

[Update: My "duh" moment - If you want to see what you're getting into before registering, you can see the first eCast by clicking here - keeping in mind a two-column (bigger) version is in the works.]

The first Underground eCast e-newsletter shipped earlier today, and in a surprise giveaway (you think we’re going left, we go right), the Underground Director of Bitterroot Reporting Taku won a free copy of “Fishizzle” via a random drawing from our email list.

First Issue's Out!

First Issue's Out!

Actually, he didn’t win.

Someone else won, but because that person is a close friend – which seemed suspicious even to me and I know I didn’t cheat – I went back to Random.org and had it generate yet another number based on atmospheric noise.

Taku’s number came up, which in a Star Trek episode would be bad, but here on the Underground, it means he gets something cool.

Those who haven’t yet registered for the Trout Underground’s eCast newsletter will want to do so before my next giveaway – or weep bitterly later, cursing their own slothful genes.

This is that cool.

Form’s below. Next newsletter’s in two week (which could include a point/counterpoint with Singlebarbed).

Your move.

Not content to simply give the blogosphere a black eye, the Trout Underground (with an assist from that brownlining fancy pants Singlebarbed) is firing up a monthly (or so) e-newsletter (sign-up below).

Expect it to contain more Underground goodness – including a few bits you won’t find here on the Underground (at least not right away).

Words, images, opinion – and yes, every issue will spring a couple tasty Underground posts from the archives. We promise you: Join up, and not only will we never spam you, but we also won’t tell your friends you joined (it’ll be our secret).

See you in your inbox, Tom Chandler.
