I live in TN and fish the local tailwaters a lot. The Corps is effectively declaring war on fishermen and wanting to close miles of perfectly safe water to boats/ wading. Granted a few idiots over the years have killed themselves ( but stupid should hurt) far more have drowned in the corps sanctioned swimming areas. In our dealings with the corps the local fishermen have seen few signs of intelligent life and a staggering amount of incompetence, idiocy, and obvious laziness. At one time the corps was staffed with professionals ….. sadly those days are long gone. These idiots work for us we are not their subjects….. I have my torch and pitchfork ready ……

So you’re a big fan then?
It sounds like you have an utter lack of leverage. Be nice to get a few political types on your side.

I’m happy to have the Weekly Short Casts back. The old technology broke and it’s taken this long to get something new working. Hopefully, from now on…

I have a grandmother, and assorted aunts, uncles and cousins in the Oak Ridge/Knoxville area. Tennessee is a pretty damn cool place for the fly fisherman I have to say. However, the corps throwing its weight around seems like a historical trend. You could add Idaho to the list as well. Unfortunate.

I have friends back that way and friendship dictates I repeat the following statement (provided by those friends): There is no worthwhile fly fishing in the Knoxville area. None. Zilch. Everyone should continue flying to Montana.
You’re welcome.

I’m currently domiciled in Moscow, ID. One thing that became pretty clear soon after moving here is the way the corps rolled right over local interests in pursuit of their projects. Dworshak dam in particular comes to mind. ‘Course now there’s quite a large number of folks who’ve come to believe that the dams are their best interests. Full circle and all that.

Now they can go with you even underwater…

You are correct, I was getting slightly confused, remembering those women VOLS in their cutoff jeans and stretchy orange t-shirts. Fly fishing takes many forms when you’re young and single…
