It’s been crazy. Everybody’s been sick. Everybody needs something. A meeting was called.
All the usual stuff.
Here’s the short course.
The McCloud River should reopen this weekend.
The October Caddis are coming off on the Upper Sacramento (as is a midday BWO hatch).
Sage has sent me a 3wt, 8’9″ Circa to test.
I am too sleepy to say more.
See you with my eyes closed, Tom Chandler.

Yessssss. Will be there in a couple weeks with pockets full of big fluffy orange dry flies- hope the hatch is raging.

If the weather’s still warm, you’ll want to bring some #20 PED dries; there are nights the trout ignore the hundreds of October Caddis popping out of the water in favor if the little dries.

The MCCloud….Today Myrna Rae the day off together. Very rare during the trout season. We went to the MC Cloud River Nature Preserve area. Going in the first thing we noticed was the begining of fall colors.Beautiful. Then we saw the burnt trees lines on the high ridges, my heart sank. Reality is a funny thing its real. the campground at Ah di na was eerily empty no happy campers running around in fleece pants lying about fish. When we reached the river we saw evidence of the fire scarred rocks, burnt trees, brush and elephant ears on her eastern bank. In many places it was left unscarred ! The River was still there, still magical and enchanting as ever. We sat on her bank watching the fall caddis flit about and the occasional rising trout… life is still good. .

I keep hearing similar things. The real question is what’s going to happen this winter and spring. Too much rain too soon, and the McCloud will definitely see some sediment blowing through. Even worse would be a Pineapple Express event this spring…

FYI, Just fished most of McCloud and Upper Sac over the weekend. OCT Caddis are hatching everywhere. But most were caught on Red Copper John Nymphs. The 5 to 7 pm “Hatch” was full of BWO, PMD and Oct Caddis, However they liked the littlest Yellow Stonefly hatch most.
