I have two bamboo fly rods that were my grandparents. I am 60 years old. The rods are in aluminum tubes, they were manufactured in South Bend Indiana. They are in felt sleeves, and my grandmothers has her signature under the lacquer at the handle. Her rod has two tips and is in mint, never used condition. My grandfathers is in good condition, but it is obvious that he used it. does anyone know what her rod is worth? I would like to sell them both. a few years back (10 yrs.) i was told they would bring $3,000 . the one in mint condition anyway? what do you fishermen think?

If they’re South Bend fly rods (you didn’t give a brand), then no way they’re in the $3k range. Somebody’s yanking your chain. Depending on the model, maybe a couple hundred. If they’re the cheaper 9′ models, not very much at all.
Sorry.

I’ve fished with a bamboo fly rod from Sweetgrass Rods and really liked it. I had never cast with a bamboo fly rod before. At first it was really different. However, I got used to it within 20-30 minutes and loved the experience.
Bamboo fly rods are definitely expensive. I’d say different things cost different amounts to different people. That said, if I had the money and was contemplating it, go for it if you love fishing. If you have the money to think about buying a bamboo fly rod, then you have the money to buy one.

Rumor has it those fish traps have two pair of initials carved in them; T.C. and K.B. Maybe ancestors–or a coincidence, nobody thinks y’all are that old.

@John — Sweetgrass rods are expensive and beauts. But not all bamboo is that expensive (or that beautifully executed). Many good ones may be had for less than top graphites, a 500. Orvis one-tip bamboo, 7 1/2′ for a five line is an example. Great buy. Speaking of South Bend, the 7 1/2 model 290 is another goodie, and known as a switchover rod for coming from the test tubular rod world.
Prob outlast the graphite rod costing 700. or more….
