In regards to the Eagle Lake bypass tunnel story:
I lived just over the hill from, and fished Eagle Lake for 21 years. Back in the early 80′s we were catching five to eight pounders on a regular basis.
The irony of the massive Bly Tunnel project is that they built it in the first place, given the alkalinity of the lake water, hence unsuitability for agricultural irrigation. I think years of drought has drained a lot more water out of the lake than the seeping Bly Tunnel.
I thought I understood quite a bit on the history of the tunnel, until found this website:
