At the end of fly fishing trip, this is a good thing to see:

That used to be a variant of the Quigley Cripple...
In one sense, successful fly fishing is about turning hackle and dubbing into tiny little pieces of garbage, and while the numbers are hardly astonishing, Chris Raine and I did turn formerly useful #20 flies into what I’d suggest were a few (badly needed) happy moments.
More soon.
See you tying more, Tom Chandler.

Ya gotta love ‘em when they’ve been chewed to pieces.

I’d be happy enough if I could tie Quigley Cripples down to a size 20 in the first place! Sounds like a worthwhile trip, Mr C…

A couple summers ago my teenaged son and I were fishing the Missisquoi River in northern Vermont. The smallmouth and panfish were taking dries, and he’d tied on a yellow humpy. He was hooking up fish after fish when he called over to me to ask if I had anything else he could use. I said, “Why? You’re killing with that humpy!” He waded over and showed me the fly. It had been chewed to bits; and was mostly just a hook. That’s the best way to go through flies!
