You’re in your little float tube (a southern reader calls them “Gator Bobbers”), you hook a trout, but the local eagle population sees to it you don’t land that trout.
Hell, happens to us all the time (only in my case it’s not so much the symbol of our country as it is a slobbery black lab/basset mix):
Anyone else get the feeling the eagle had swooped down before, and the fisherman was trying to see if he’d grab a fish?

I think he knew. But who cares? that was epic. Did the eagle eat the head and get the fly? who knows. I have to think the odds are “no” – but then maybe I’m just wanting to enjoy the video guilt-free?

I doubt egles eat the jaw, but then that might just be that guilt-fre thing again.

I haven’t had an experience with an eagle but I have had a couple float tube encounters with loons (the avian variety) eying my catch. They are large, fast swimmers and when they blast under you, a bit unnerving.

My friend Steve Herter once pulled off the switchero.
He chased a golden eagle off a hen mallard that it had killed in Summit County, Colorado.
He took the duck home and ate it.
Steve reinvented the origins of falconry that day.

I once camped with a guy who kept stealing my trail mix from my pack. It seemed epically bad at the time…

Yes, a bit contrived, but cool nonetheless. Hope the hook came out.

I loved the sound of the drag screaming as the eagle flew away. Didn’t even seem to faze the bird.
You gotta figure the hook was impaled on a part of the fish that isn’t normally eaten.

I’ll give the guy the benefit of the doubt as I’m sure he knows that intentionally disturbing or injuring a Bald Eagle puts him dangerously close to a violation of the Eagle Act (16 U.S.C. 668-668c) which carries a first time offense penalty of $100,000 fine, imprisonment for one year, or both.
But other than that, it’s good fun. I too was impressed by the strength of that eagle as it peeled off line.

Very cool, impressive animal.
Tough day of fishing though. I’d find a new spot…

Cool. Now if I could only catch a trout in the first place, ………..http://withampiscator.blogspot.com/2011/08/theyre-cute.html

Hey, it looks like you’re getting fish. I don’t want to admit how long it took me to catch a trout…
