Found an inch of snow on the ground this morning (it snowed most of yesterday, but only rarely stuck).
We’ll almost certainly see some nice weather (right up until late December), this suggests winter is arriving – and that the fly fishermen will now largely disappear.
In a way, that’s too bad; the BWO hatch can really pick up steam (well, as much as it does on the Upper Sac, which isn’t a lot), and you can still score heavy with a dying October Caddis pattern.
Then again, I’ve never been averse to having the river to myself.
Of course, it also means it’s time to winterize our Palatial Estate, and break out the winter clothing – the subject of an upcoming Underground post.
See you on the river, Tom Chandler.

Absolutely the perfect time to be out on the water in my opinion. Most are home on weekends till Spring, busy hunting or prefer warmer temps. Time to enjoy some time out on the water with few crowds indeed!

Yep. It’s not bad.

Agreed…and I am one of those that you are describing :)
Too bad I never have to worry about the water being too cold down here in the gulf :)

Having to contend with 70cm thick ice, certainly puts the dampers on chucking some fluff. The only downfall about living so high, latitude wise is the shortened season……why didn’t I pick somewhere like Belize instead to live!
Simon Graham(Quote)
Because if you lived in Belize you’d be distracted by bikinis year-round instead of fly fishing. 70cm of tends to focus a man…
Tom Chandler(Quote)
Hey Simon I guess that means more time to tie some great patterns and possibly dream about Belize!

Actually I have a friend who’s just baught a lodge over there he’s converting into a fly fishing destination….probably why its on my mind And Your probably right Tom….Most women here on the island have faces like yaks arses and arses like yak faces so bikini clad women would definitely be a major distraction for me…Thats a good thing though….Isn’t it?
