Goldens are on my bucket list……. up high here painting the brookies is what our mountain angels do on their off days goldens must be what the western coast angels do on their off days ….. well those that aren’t painting greenbacks
I’ve made a promise to myself to not go a full season without catching goldens, they are part of my trip planning each and every year.
The bad news for you is that most (though not all) access to goldens is a lot easier from the east side. the trip you’ve linked to (which has probably 1 more installment, plus a photo gallery coming) is only a 3 hour drive from home.
In my first year as a dad, I’ve kinda avoided setting new fly fishing goals, focusing on protecting the existing ones. For example, it’s real possible I won’t catch a single brookie in 2010…

The pressures are high on us new fathers. Mine is only now 6 weeks old, and being gone for 3 nights is certainly a tough thing. I do return from the woods a better person than I left.
As it is, there are a few places that don’t require any backcountry trekking (or even driving on dirt roads). Email me if you’d like to know some more… the first day of our trip is a great place to camp for a couple days with family.
Cheers,
Ray
PS – Still working on finishing up the report and posting a photo gallery. hopefully all will be wrapped up come the end of the weekend.

As much as I kicked around the state back in my (more) single days, I can’t say I’ve caught a full-blooded Golden Trout.
An omission – perhaps I’ll hold out long enough to backpack up there with Little M (when she’s old enough) and catch a few with her.
