Thanks for the feedback. I know the Patagonias - with their softer rubber sole - grip like crazy glue on dry rocks, and I'm looking forward to testing the Simms in those environments.

@Sully: I think they're the same uppers with the new sole (most of the boots still available in felt). That said, I haven't yet tested them in a small stream environment yet, so I wouldn't pull the trigger yet.

@Georgie: They worked well on the river, but I haven't yet tested them in other environments. The rubber feels much harder than the Patagonia stuff, and I did catch myself wondering if the grip we enjoyed on the greasy stuff wasn't due to the aggressive tread pattern. More testing to come.

The new Simms have a much harder sole. I recently borrowed my brother's pair for a day trip on a mountain stream (climbing big smooth - in most cases dry - rocks). I barely survived. I would have been better off wearing rollerskates.

A question for Dave.
Have you worn Simms boots before? I wear their aqua-stealth boots right now and they fit great. If their soft rubber versions are based on the same boot they've made a sale.

Any time TC comes up to fish is just plain fun for me. It's what a true fishing partner is about. Spotting a pair of Ospreys in a tree, playing with Boo (my lab) in the back of the boat. Just sitting back and watching TC cast, (he is a very smooth caster). Having lunch on the side of the river and have a soon to be mommy goose come off her nest and scare the crap out of us. Any fish we got was a big bonus for me, jut being on the river with a really good friend was all that is meant to be.
David
PS had more whining from the Lab than TC for a change wasn't bad ether.

Great Hookset picture!
I feel like it's a good thing Trout haven't figured out twitter yet, They seem to play mind games with me enough here in Maine. God only knows how interesting my fishing would get if they formed a coalition against me.
