Another Fly Fishing Personal Transportation First: The Air Bike

by Tom Chandler on March 25, 2009 · 6 comments

At the Underground, our goal is to make your lives better (not in the sense we’re willing to go very far out of our way, but give us a little credit for making it a goal).

We brought you critical fly fishing personal transportation stories on the personal blimp, the jetpack, the water-powered jetpack, and the flying boat.

This time, we’re bringing you a wholly environmentally friendly personal-transportation solution: Ladies, Gentlemen & Undergrounders, we give you… The Flying Bike!

Found via that slacker at “The Goat” backcountry blog, the flying bike is a brilliant idea, if only because you can’t stop pedaling madly before you arrive at your destination. Give up, and you’ll crash and die.

Now there’s “do or die” exercise program you can’t help but love.

Still, think of the envy etched on the faces of your friends as you soar by on your quest to be the first to that backcountry lake. (We can’t help but imagine the horror on their faces as you’re smashed into the rock cliff by a gust of wind, but that would never happen, right?)

In fact, add a set of rod racks to this baby, and you’ve got what others can only dream of – a surefire way to cash in on your life insurance break every fly rod you own beat everyone else to the best water.

Once again, there’s no need to thank us (though consider making us the beneficiaries on your life insurance). At the Underground, the giving never stops.

See you in the sky, Tom Chandler.

Wow that’s so cool. I remember seeing the Gossamer albatross fly across the English channel on TV as a kid so bike powered flight has long been a dream.

The body of water separates the england from france is the ENGLISH channel. france’s derestriction begins at the waters edge.
When i sad ‘long been’ it only seems long, i’ve not even started ‘middle youth’ yet

I understand sierra trading post has these at 60% percent off, but in off sizes and missing moving parts – lol! I’m planning on trying this out after a weekend of water boarding.

I love your site. I am looking for a small inflateable boat to throw into my Durango for on-the-spot fishing. Do you know who makes the best boat. Canoe is too big, too heavy. I need a small effecient boat (1 person). I also have a website that I jsut started. All this WEB stuff is very exciting. I have added you to my favorites. I am not a huge company, I am one person that loves fishing!!!! Keep in touch. Al, author of grandfatherstacklebox.com
