Hey Tom, I was a little surprised to see plans for a McCloud River Powerhouse in the relicensing plans that got posted yesterday. Any thoughts on that?

I haven’t even looked (this isn’t exactly my fulltime job). What’s your impression?

Well, construction is probably going to put a fair number of trucks on the road out there to the dam, but beyond that, it might not be bad. I guess the flows are still being worked out (FOR isn’t working on this one), but the turbine they are planning would run from 90-400 cfs, which would seem to indicate that they are not planning higher “boating” flows. The flow regiem is the big piece still not set. Reading the various technical memo’s it looks like boating and fishing can’t work and play well on the Mac. Flows of 450 were the cutoff for acceptable fishing and acceptable boating flows tended to start at 700. We’ll see.

Tom…don’t loose site of the fact…while you were happily gliding along in a straight line covering 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile…Wally was up, down…back and forth covering about twice the distance checking out every knook and cranney as most labs will do….so a 4 mile lunch break was about 7.5 miles for him….besides it’s a lot of work wagging that tail all day.
