It’s never easy to write posts like this, but the Underground has lost one of its own, and though we can be a snarky bunch, we know enough to stop and remove our hat when life demands it.
Will Brown Jr. was a Georgia native who’d visited this area and couldn’t bring himself to leave. He was an upbeat, good-humored 29 year-old kid who loved to fly fish the Upper Sacramento, and he was the kind of guy you wouldn’t mind running into on the river (his comments on the Underground reflected that).
He died suddenly on January 3 after snowboarding all day, and because he was a great guy and because he was one of us, the Underground will miss him.
Godspeed Will.
p.s. – A celebration of Will’s life will be held Sunday @ 2pm at the Wayside Grill in Mt. Shasta.

I feel lucky to have met him. He had a broad, warm smile which grew broader when he talked about fishing. And since he was a big fan of the Trout Underground, one has to assume he had good taste (or questionable judgment – haha).
We’ll miss ya’ Will!

Sorry to hear about that. Didn’t know him, but sounds like he was one of the tribe. Will take a moment on the river for a remembrance.

Will was a fine young man, taken from us too early. He graced my shop on many occasions and was always welcome. Eventually we all slip away and Will slipped away too soon. “I go. . . you stay.” Ishi.

For those of you who knew my son, Will Brown; thank you for sharing his passion for fly-fishing, and the time you spent with him. He loved the life he lived, and lived the life he loved in California. I’m happy in knowing that the shadow of his smile still lingers in your hearts.
