Via Moldy Chum, we learn today’s the day a pair of phone calls could prevent Shell Canada from drilling for coalbed methane in the “Sacred Headwaters” of some truly productive steelhead rivers (Skeena, Nass & Stikine).
Shell’s been trying to drill there for better than two years, with only a handful of folks keeping them at bay.
I admit to not knowing much about this project, though coalbed methane drilling doesn’t exactly tread lightly on the environment.
So invest a few minutes in a pair of phone calls - below are the numbers, names and even a handy script we cribbed from Moldy.
Hi my name is ________, and I’m calling about Shell’s plan to drill for coalbed methane in BC’s Sacred Headwaters.
I don’t think the oil and gas industry should be able to drill in special places like the Sacred Headwaters, which should be a legacy for all Canadians.
I encourage [Premier Campbell / Mr. Straub] to do the right thing and protect the Sacred Headwaters.
Thank you for passing this message along.

Calls placed, left one on a msg. machine, the premier of canada had a young aide answering the phone who seemed absolutlely flabbergasted that a US citizen was calling with this concern, he even asked me why I cared since it would not likely affect anywhere I fish or recreate, so I told him, I fish and recreate on planet earth, and it would deffinately affect that…
