There’s not a lot of it, but it’s still fallling here at the Trout
Underground/Man Cave World Headquarters (located on the flank of Mount
Shasta).
First, if you’re headed this way to fish, don’t assume shirtsleeve weather. In fact, better bring the fleece, though the snow will be gone by midday and temps over the weekend will be more… temperate.

Yep, that’s a sign of the impending Apocalypse. Just talked to a friend in Dillon and they have 6″ + of snow and temp’s in the teens. Guess the trout are heading for the winter lies. The Bitterroot River is dropping a degree a day right now. At least the grouse hunting is holding up. And the winter midge fishing might start early (although next week is forecast in the mid to high 50′s) – might have the shed the waders again. Have a good weekend!

That photo might be the closet I get to snow this year. It is still in the 70′s and 80′s here in South Carolina. I wish it would snow.

Having some snow fall really is not that bad of a deal it thins out a lot of the anglers who are more interested in the beer then the fish. Atrue steelheader knows that the cold weather only means that the fishing is going to be pickup around here on the Salmon River in Idaho.

Some of my favorite fly fishing memories involve snow and ice, and there’s little cooler than fly fishing your way through a snow storm – it’s yards better than fishing in the rain.
