Via Alert Underground Reader Aaron, we were steered to an NPR story about a fisheries biologist who also shoots underwater photography of some of the Underground’s favorite finned subject matter (including the Brook Trout – the Official Char of the Trout Underground).

The interview with photographer Mary Edwards is here (transcribed, though you can also listen to their audio feed), and the slideshow of her images – some of which are damned interesting – is here.

Interestingly, Edwards is quite open about her electronic manipulation of images (in the digital age, photographers routinely manipulate photos on their PCs).

Heavy post-processing is an option that has either democratized outdoor photography, or ruined the art form entirely – depending on who you’re asking.

See you behind the camera, Tom Chandler.
