Tom, Don’t know how to contact you directly, or I would. You’ve got somebody piggybacking. I found an e-mail linking to an old thread (2007). At first, I tried to read the thread, but could not find the comment that the e-mail said was there. Then, when I connected to the person’s direct link…Whoaaaa. Serious porn site, and when I clicked on that, I got pop-ups (in spite of my pop-up blocker) that I couldn’t get rid of. Think they’re gone now. Thought you might like to know.

Jim: I’m not sure what you mean by you found an email. Was it one of the Underground’s daily email updates?
Every day I spend a few minutes scrubbing all the comment spam and track spam from the Underground; sometimes they make it into the RSS feed before I get to them, and maybe that’s what you’re seeing.
The amount of comment and trackback spam that hits this blog is truly astounding; automated spam filters deal with most of it, but some still gets through.

I don’t know if it was a “daily” e-mail update, but it was an e-mail update. My post wasn’t very clear; sorry. I received an e-mail update, advising of a new comment on the thread last year about James Reams’ bamboo flyrods. The e-mail showed the comment that I think should have appeared in the thread, along with a link to the thread, and another that said to link to it to see all comments. When I linked to the first, I got the old thread, and there was no new comment that I could see. Went back to my e-mail, and clicked on the second link. Helllooo! So, since I was there, and feeling naughty (being a 62 year old bachelor and all), I decided to start one of the videos; all the (many) photos had those sorts of video arrows. I then got a pop up telling me that I need an Acive X control in order to run the video. That ain’t true; I run videos all the time. I tried to close it, but could not. Eventually, I just re-booted. That seems to have taken care of the problem. My guess is that it is an attempt to sell some pirated software.

Yeah, it was comment spam. I probably killed the offending comment before you got to it, but the original link remained.
Damn spammers chew up enough time for an extra post each week.

Well, it was enough to get this old timer’s heart started. But no more. I’m sure I have some phish somewhere, and don’t have anti-phishing software.
