It’s almost the weekend, and at least some of the Undergrounders have got to have fly fishing plans. Here’s your chance to share them.
And yes, we’ve noticed the other fly fishing blogs are posting videos from hip new rock bands (hipper than Lawrence Welk anyway), and damnit, we’re not the kind of blog to be left out.
Still, my demographic tends toward folks old enough to remember the Cold War, when the Red Menace was poised to invade our fair country in a flurry of human-wave assaults on our cities, and the next thing you know, we’re all eating borscht.
Of course, wait long enough, and everything changes, which is why I selected today’s short music video.
That’s why this video – designed to promote international healing among the Undergrounders – features Finland’s Leningrad Cowboys singing Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” with the… (wait for it)… Red Army Choir.
Bet you didn’t see that one coming.
It’s Friday Undergrounders. Who’s going where this weekend? (See you in the mountains, Tom Chandler.)

Not where, but what. As Peter Sellers would say, “The muuuth”.

Weather permitting of course.

Sully: Do you have lizance for that muuuuth?
Michael: What, did you give us coordinates to a Hooters or something? You fancy pants types and your coordinates…

Fancy…maybe.
Stone cold busted by the Underground? Definitely ;-) !

No fishing this weekend-family reunion obligations (wait a minute though-there is a farm pond there! Maybe I can sneek a rod in the car without getting caught!)
I think I almost would have preferred a Lawrence Welk video. Jeeze, that almost hurt.

Thinking of the upper Stanislaus or Tuolumne in the next few days. (I prefer fishing during the week when everyone else is dreaming)

We fished the Elk River tailwaters near Lynchburg, TN yesterday. The fish were fairly cooperative!

Harry: Be careful, or I’ll throw the Finnish disco video at you again.
Guido: I used to fish the Middle and lower Stan a bunch (before I moved up here). Nice places.
Flygirl: I’ve fished the Holsten, S. Holsten, Clinch and Hiwassee, but never made it to the Elk. Is it worth the drive if I find myself in Tennessee next spring?

Tom…
We usually wade close to Tims Ford dam. This is the first time we have really been downriver and there are some definitely some nicer fish downstream. Access points are few and far between. One place that we thought was “open” this winter turned out not to be. Glad we didn’t get shot…there are some Deliverance types around that probably wouldn’t look too kindly on some fancy pants fly fisherman walking through their property!
All of this said, I love the Elk. Makes me really want a boat of some fashion though.
