I’m back from Montana, and while this became one of the fly fishing road trips you never want to end, it’s always gratifying to turn into your own driveway at the end of it all.

I’ve got a to-do list that would choke a 20-pound Bull Trout. So you won’t see any of the final three fishing reports until at least tonight.

Until then, let me whet your appetite with this little teaser:

A small stream, somewhere in Montana
A small stream – which held many big cutthroat trout. Really.

Also slated for no-GPS-coordinates-included publication was the discovery of a tiny, apparently rarely fished meadow stream that you could step across, yet still contained several 11″-12″ Cutthroats and Brookies – and at least one in the 14″-15″ range.

When you find something like that, your plans to fish the by-comparison-crowded tailwaters tend to disappear. Mine did.

See you on a small trout stream, Tom Chandler.
