I’m back in Missoula after another couple days wallowing in real-life Montana backcountry trouting, and while I’ve got three days worth of photos and reports, they’ll keep until I’m back home in Mt. Shasta.
With 100+ degree temps forecast for Wednesday, I’m heading home Tuesday to spare myself the extra 5 degrees (14 hours in a truck without air conditioning forces you to think like a trout; too much heat kills).
Lots more Montana fly fishing to come. See you on the (hot, sticky) road, Tom Chandler.

I know what you mean about too much heat. When it gets that hot you want to be where its cool. Just like the fish. Down deep!

You’re making that drive without AC?! Ugh, I feel for you – although, not really. You’ve been fishing for, what – two weeks? All bets are off at that point. No sympathy for someone that’s been off having that much fun!

I wonder how close you are to home? Let us know when you hit the best driveway in the world. It is the one to home……

Here’s the road update: TC called me early this afternoon from somewhere north of Bend, Oregon – and it didn’t sound as if he were having the time of his life on the drive.
Remember that line from Field of Dreams, “Is the heaven? No it’s Iowa.”
I think in his case it was more like “Is this hell? No, it’s eastern Oregon in July with no a/c.” Pretty much the same thing.

Tough crowd. And yes, the Majesty of the drive had worn pretty thin at about hour nine (somewhere around Bend, OR), though Mom Underground hits its pretty much perfectly – there’s no place like home…
