Does Nestle’s Momma Even Love Them Anymore?

by Tom Chandler on July 29, 2008

I wasn’t planning on throwing a pair of enviro stories at the Undergrounders this morning, but this one’s too sweet to ignore.

The California Attorney General’s office has weighed in on Nestle’s proposed McCloud bottling plant (.pdf document alert), and like seemingly everyone else on the planet, they don’t much like what they see (excerpted from scan of letter):

These days, bad PR is falling on Nestle like rain in a Midwest thunderstorm. Their Web site says “Good Food. Good Life.”

Judging by the sheer volume of anti-Nestle rhetoric flying in the mass media and on the Internet, it might be time they started looking for a new tagline.

Good for the California AG. I live in Alberta, where serious consideration of global warning is a heresy against the oil and gas interests. Our (provincial) government has taken the view that there is no pollution or carbon emission worth worrying about. I’d give my eye teeth (whatever they are) for a government with half the cojones of the California AG!
That’s quite a cogent and visionary letter; way to go!

How ’bout– “Good Grief! Goodbye.”

Did I win? Apparently I’m the only contestant. Hah! Gotcha this time, TC…

Larry: Good luck with that one. “Traditional” industries in the west (timber, mining, livestock) still wield far more political power than their economic contributions to the economy would suggest.

Chile: It’s a start, but where’s the contest??

FINALLY! Those interested in cracking the whip on Nestle keeping track of Nestle for real should visit my just-launched StopNestleWaters.org Web site.

It’s focused entirely on Nestle-related issues, and because it’s not a fly fishing blog (like the Trout Underground), there’s lots, lots more to talk about.

The Trout Underground will continue taking note of Nestle’s activities, but most of the action will be taking place on StopNestleWaters.org.

See you there!
