The manufacturer making a minor change and forcing a discount of the previous model is nothing new - it happens every year, or nearly every year, in the golf club industry, and generally the same sort of price ranges as we find with fly rods, etc. It also happens on college campuses - a professor writes a book, then next year changes a paragraph or two, and the kids taking the class have to buy a whole new edition...meanwhile, you're lucky to get pennies on the dollar when you try to sell them back.
