Wayne Eng, a big trout, and a (slightly) bigger mountain.
Yesterday afternoon was a monster big-fish-fest for Wayne Eng and the Underground’s Fearless Leader, but I can’t file my gloating, self-satisfied fishing report quite yet; there’s too much real work that needs to be written.
Still, I’ll give you a glimpse into the future — you’ll read all about:
- Many Big Trout
- A prototype bamboo fly rod stretched to its limits (see #1)
- A mouse pattern
- Stunning views
- A broken camera
- Several Manly Acts of Courage (not really)
- Fly Fishing Stupidity (really)
- A Taco Bell Big Box Meal
See you on the blog, Tom Chandler.

Now, if you could give me the GPS coordinates, or driving directions, to that pond, I’d really appreciate it! Can you just tell me the name of the mountain?

…Tom, I think you’ve got me stumped…haha, I thought it was the resort at first! I think I would have to fly around shasta for 30 minutes just to find wherever this is! looks awesome though!

Did you get serenaded by that Ukelele Wayne’s carrying? You didn’t mention that part … (eyesight is going, it sure looks like one.)

Jim & C3C: The pond’s on private property, and while the fish are wild (you wouldn’t believe the food chain in that place), you’ll end up with a backside full of buckshot if you try to fish it without permission. I think Wayne’s the only guy guiding it right now (call him).
kbarton: Everyone knows Wayne fishes with a Mandolin, not a Ukelele.

I think it’s a benriner, not a mandolin.
Oh yeah, thanks for the invite, bastards.

I think I sense some bitterness from Smells.

That’s no mandolin that Wayne is carrying. It is a huge net. That is what you need on that specific piece of water. The fish you hook pretty much fill that net. Great place to fish, but then any place with Wayne guiding you is great.

For anyone reading Marlene’s comment, please note that the picture is a fabrication, the place doesn’t exist, and there are no big, big trout anywhere near Mount Shasta, much less in a small pond that some are apparently trying to locate via Google Earth.
I’m not even sure Wayne Eng is real.
