So maybe it's been useless for more like 40 or 50 years. I'm not really sure about the number. Decendents of the family are trying to get it declared a historic landmark (thus not takeable downable).

Caltrout is, or was, working on this project.

Like I said, stay tuned.

So is that a "yes" or a "no" to the pictures? (Or even video.) And don't remove Missoula until after my road trip.

It's hell going nowhere.

When the idea of removing Milltown Dam first caught fire there was a proliferation of “Save the River, Remove the Dam” bumper stickers around Missoula. The larger viewpoint was subsequently expressed by the “Save the Valley, Remove Missoula” stickers.

Taku: Ok, fixed it. Thanks for the head's up.

Kentucky: I used to fish right up to the dam in Malibu. A small group of us -- not even really knowing what steelhead were -- would start out fishing for the things, but would always end up chasing warmouth and other "less-desirable" species with our little glass fly rods.

I can't believe the stupid thing is still up. It was useless when we fished it in the late 70s.

Just a clarification on the dam note. The Milltown dam is actually on the Clark Fork, right where the Big (not Little) Blackfoot has it's confluence with the Clark Fork (the Little Blackfoot is way upstream near Garrison Junction by Deer Lodge).
By the way Tom, when is the house cleaning at Donny Beaver's digs being advertised on Craigslist?????

Two dams here in So. Cal. If I'm not mistaken, the Army Corps of Engineers has signed off on taking down the Matilija dam near Ojai, California, good news for the few southern Steelhead that still try to spawn in that river. On the other hand, the Rindge dam in Malibu, although silted over and useless for the last 30 years or so, has not been officially declared dead. Malibu creek used to host up to 1000 or more steelhead. Clark Gable and Spencer Tracey used to go for 'em in between movie shoots, it is said. Beleive it or not, there are still about 50 southern steelhead that try to make their way up that stream. The surfers have figured out that if the dam were gone, their beaches would start to come back.
