The Ultimate Web Site for Western Drift Boat & Dory Nerds? (And we mean that in a good way.)

Drift boats might be the most elegant fishing craft ever designed (especially if you can get your buddy to row while you fish).

Roger Fletcher feared the drifter and dory designs originating on the nearby Rogue and McKenzie rivers were being lost forever as the boats and builders went the way of all flesh.

So he wrote "Drift Boats & River Dories," a book that explores the history and design of Oregon’s early dories and drift boats.

I don’t have a copy of the book for review, but there’s plenty to see on Fletcher’s Web site (where you can order the book).

For example, he publishes a few tempting tidbits about the early history of the drift boat and dory.

For those with actual wood-working talent, he sells plans for several different classic driter and dory styles.

He even offers scale models, so if you’re a very, very tiny fishermen, you could save a bundle on a wooden drift boat (I can’t even afford the model).

See you in the (tiny) drift boat, Tom Chandler.
