Slaw Dog Too Messy for Trail Use? Try a Canned Cheeseburger…

Advancing the culinary level of the average fly fishermen is at the heart of the Trout Underground’s mission statement*; witness our reader-friendly attempts to introduce the slaw dog into the fly fishing zeitgeist.

That’s why we had to immediately notify our readers about this hot new product (found via backcountry.com):

The German-Built Canned Cheeseburger!

Frankly, we’re in awe. Who knew the Germans were channeling their considerable industrial might into the development of canned, meat-based fast-food products?? (And Germans love David Hasselhoff, who loves hamburgers, so you know it’s gotta be good.)

Imagine cracking open one of these babies after a hard day of bluelining. After all, nothing whets my appetite for cold meat and soggy bread like a day spent scrambling over rocks and fighting off the local wildlife.

Once again, the Trout Underground leads the way when it comes to making your life better. We care. We really, really care.

See you in the canned burger aisle, Tom Chandler

UPDATE: Alert Underground Reader Patrick found the breakfast counterpart to the German Canned Chesseburger (they love Hasslehoff): Organic Pancake Batter in a CAN.

Batter blaster

I think the lessons here are clear — canned burgers and pancake batter in a can are critical components of today’s outdoor experience precisely because by the time you’re sick/dying/desperate enough to actually eat one, you’re going to need the convenience of a canned food.

Thus, we conclude today’s outdoor survival tip.

I have had steak&kidney pie out of a tin before, but this takes it to a whole new level.

Frankly, I would prefer MREs…they were passing them out by the boxfull after Katrina - I had experience with the first generation MREs in the 80s when I was in the Air Force, but the ones they have today are actually quite good. The jambalaya was particularly tasty, particularly after spending a sweltering day on the roof fixing the hole where the tree went through. The heating packets they include are really neat.

I’m not so sure this isn’t TC swearing off the Slaw Dog, and looking desperately for a surrogate.

One brush with Death you can laugh off, after the fourth or fifth time you get religion.

Note there was no mention of the moonpie’s since he took delivery (also no mention of Wally) - do the math.
