To Everyone Praying for a White Christmas: Stop Already
By Tom Chandler on Dec 23, 2007 in Underground Entertainment
I realize that a snowy Christmas fires up all sorts of nostalgic feelings for those of you who aren’t saddled with shoveling the fluffy white stuff, but man — ease up on the divine requests, will ya?
After all, our snowblower’s on the fritz, my back can only take so much shoveling, and even Wally the Wonderdog gets tired of the stuff when it gets deeper than his stubby front legs.

(And yes, I scientifically determined the frozen pond won’t quite support the weight of your average adult male fly fisher.)
Frankly, I think you guys are overdoing it. If you want to tour the yard at Trout Underground World Headquarters, you need something rarely seen at your average household:

Still, the skiers are happy, and with the L&T Nancy, Wally the Wonderdog and I headed south for Christmas, it’s left to our house/pet sitter to deal with all the crystallized water.
I’m rushing to finish a work project, and while I’ll have Internet access while we’re gone, I definitely won’t have any fishing reports to post until next weekend.
The good news is my long-promised aritcle on fiberglass fly rods is almost done, and we’ve got some other fun stuff headed your way, including a foray into the audio arts.
Stay tuned, Undergrounders. 2007’s coming to an end, but the Underground certainly isn’t.
See you on the road, Tom Chandler.

Surely snowfall contributes to good water conditions come spring and summer, no? Here in MN I am battling 30 mph winds and blizzard snows. It’s a great excuse to put off what is to be a couple days of grand family dysfunction. Hope you can find your house (and your dog) when you return.

Merry White Christmas Tom! Here in the Bitterroot Valley (Tropical Montana as it’s known) it’s clear and dry (at least right now). Have fun down south and like Megan says, more snow now =’s better flows later. Besides those snowshoes will get you to the river just fine - as long as you can get the truck out of the driveway…

Tom,
We would be happy to take some of your snow down here in GA. It has been a “little” dry this year. This is off the subject but, thanks to the travels that you suffer through on behalf of the Underground readers I got a Stevens “made in Maine” net from my wife for Christmas. Both she and the net are SWEET!

Merry Christmas Tom and the L & T Nancy,
It looks like we won’t have any actual snow here in Fort Wayne for Christmas day. The last remnants of our 3rd snow of the year blew away during the night two days ago when the temp got above freezing and it rained hard. More snow expected wed. though.
Looking forward to more Trout Underground in 2008 ……. and Beyond !!!!

Merry Christmas, Larry.

Megan: It can snow like the world’s ending… once we get back. It’s not as if being snowbound with the L&T is the worst thing that could happen…
Taku: I’m skiing into the place I’m dying to fish once it’s snowed in. It’s amazing how productive the heavily fished spots become once they’re become un-heavily fished for a month or two.
Mike: Thanks! My trip to Maine just became tax deductible.
Larry: Anything open up there in the winter?

Hey Tom,
Tomorrow’s my 62nd birthday and I hear the
temp is supposed to get up into the high 30’s.
Think I’ll go down to Rock Creek and see if
I can rouse up some smallmouth bass.
That is if the Wabash river has receded some.
I drove over it a week ago and it was out of it’s banks and into the trees. It’s worth the 20 mile trip to see anyway.
As far as Michigan goes I don’t know if there are any Camp Grounds open. With the snow they’ve been getting I would doubt it. I’ve been thinking about a recon trip on the Indiana
portion of the St. Joseph river though. I can do
that in one day if there’s no room at the Inn.
