Lake Davis Post-Poisoning Fish Counts In: Few Trout Were Left
By Tom Chandler on Dec 13, 2007 in News
That fast-moving bastard Singlebarbed beat me to this one, so I’m going to cut his gruel allowance by half.
Still, the story’s worth reporting; Fish & Game published the results of the lake-wide poisoning of Lake Davis (another attempt to remove the Northern Pike). From Singlebarbed:
Results of the poisoning were also published, 50,000 pounds of dead fish were recovered after the lake was treated, 6% were pike, 80% were bullheads, less than 1% were trout.
Yow. Lots of pike. But damned few trout. Let’s hope they got all the pike this time. Any wagers?

There’s a few pike in there still, 90% positive. But there may not be enough for them to find each other and reproduce, maybe?!

These Lake Davis folks could learn a thing or two from Orange County about how to wipe out some fish.

C3C: Good point; after all, it’s hard for people to get together, and we’re supposed to be smart.
Smells: Better point. Let’s put the guy in charge of OC trout recovery in charge of Lake Davis eradication.
