One Percent for the Planet Fires Up Member Auction; Underground Snubbed
By Tom Chandler on Nov 16, 2007 in Underground Entertainment
One Percent for the Planet — the business-driven environmental organization started by Craig Matthews and Patagonia’s Yvon Chouinard — is firing up their first annual Member Auction.
And damnit — they want you to play.
Because my readers were too cheap to group up and turn my Dunsmuir Man Cave House into a Dunsmuir fly fishing timeshare, I’m not at all sure why One Percent thinks you’d throw down for any of their auctions.
Still, they apparently contacted me in the hopes that both my wealthy readers would get drunk and bid wildly.
So in case you’ve got some spare cash, here’s a short list (full list here):
- A custom 1% longboard from Firewire Surfboards
- A weeklong rafting trip in Mexico with National Geographic’s #2 Best Outfitter in the World
- A helicopter ride in the DC area from Bussmann Aviation
- Surf Session with Yvon Chouinard
- A Guided Fly Fishing Trip with Craig Matthews

I can’t believe they didn’t ask the Underground to to contribute a guided fly fishing trip like Craig Matthews, but the idea of one of their winning bidders waking up in a Siskiyou County Jail Cell smeared with chocolate-flavored Gink and nursing a hangover was a little too much for them.
I’ll try to take the snub in stride.
In the meantime, I’ll see you on the auction site, Tom Chandler.

Ha ha ha hah ah ! Tom, your swiftness and wit astound me! Do fish have any chance?!! Thank you so much for sharing our auction with your readers. We are especially excited about Craig offering to guide a day trip for two this summer!! We have yet to see too much action with bidding on his trip thus far though. Did you jinx us?!?! Or perhaps your readers are all riverside these days? Well if they happen to check in and as mentioned, if pockets fail to produce the necessary amounts to indulge in such a day, there are plenty of other items that may spark interest. Have you seen Maine native Bridget Besaw’s photograph of an early riser on a misty morning? So beautiful! Otherwise you are right, you have not offered a guided trip yourself? Hmmm???
