An Underground Poll: Do You Read Fly Fishing Magazines?
By Tom Chandler on Sep 19, 2007 in Poll
Only a fool believes everything he reads on the Internet (by the way, I’m 6′2″ and handsome), but if you buy into even a little of it, you’d think a lot of online-savvy fly fishers stopped reading fly fishing magazines years ago.
I want to know if it’s true. So I spent hours (a lie) creating a wholly anonymous poll that involves literally a few seconds of your time (both true). Do the Undergrounders read fly fishing’s mainstream print magazines?
By mainstream, I mean Fly Rod & Reel, American Angler or Fly Fishermen (I’m leaving out the Drake and regional magazines).
Respond and be heard, or I’m going to start a topic asking people to name their alltime favorite fly, and force you all to read it…

It may be just a browser issue TC, but that pulsing vote button looks like a Viagra prop gone insane…

Usually I look at the pictures, I definetly oogle the centerfold, but if asked at a cocktail party, I only read the articles.

Mad Dog: Can’t see it in my browser, but the Viagra comparison is apt; I’m asking my readers to Stand Tall and be counted…
K: Next you’ll tell us you practice magazine cover shot hero poses in a mirror…

Do You Regularly Read Mainstream Fly Fishing Magazines?
I read California Fly Fisher, is that mainstream or more of a side channel?
Tom Chandler | Sep 20, 2007 | Reply
Don: It’s a great mag, but it’s regional. I’m looking more at the national mags.

Tom…question from another…and I don’t have an answer.

Tom and all the rest of you dedicated readers who are either to old to work, lazy or wounded, so do nothing but read this stuff everyday.
Here is a question from another that I could not answer (that in it self is anomally),”is there a flyfishing bolg dedicated to Bassfishing”?

I don’t know of a fly fishing blog dedicated to bass fishing, but I’d bet there are some that overlap.
Tell your friend to go to Google Blog Search and type in “fly fishing for bass” or related search terms and see what happens.

What about Gray’s? Is that maintsream? Is that fly-fishing? And I’d like to know what you think about that magazine…your buddy Donny Beaver advertises in it.

I use to subscribe to:
Field and Stream (in the 70’s)
FlyFisherman (in the 70’s)
Rod and Gun which became Rod and Reel(in the 70-80s).
The Bamboo Fly Rod
Fly Tyer
I’ve ordered the first issue of Hatches which should arrive this week.

I learned a lot about which line to use by reading Cosmopolitan.

Why not The Drake (out of curiosity)?
I tend to buy fly fishing magazines when I’m about to hop on a plane. But at home they just stack up on the toilet.

My favorite fly is the Eat-Me, because…oh wait, that part of the post is a threat.

Pete: You’re the lucky recipient of a specially written thread arguing the merits of fast rods vs slow rods — emailed directly to you!
Matt: Love the Drake, but it’s been published once a year, which makes for a tough comparison to the others…

Nope, it fits perfectly, that’s why I read fishing magazines.
Likely needed by them as aspire to a cover “phallic” fish pose.
