Montana’s Burning: The Underground Fiddles

Alert Underground Reader Sully sent me an e-mail this morning, pointing out that the average temperature in Missoula this month has been 96.5 degrees. That’s only one degree cooler than Tucson, Arizona — and warmer than the 5 biggest cities in Texas.

Fly fishers looking to fish Montana’s famous waters might want to take notice.

It’s little surprise that the heat — coupled with the drought conditions — has resulted in wildfires all over Montana, and many of the area’s “name-brand” rivers are suffering mandatory fishing closures due to high water temperatures.

New West gives us the scoop about where the fires are burning (including those near famous waters like Rock Creek), while Fly Fishing in Yellowstone roars back from his computer problems with an excellent post telling where you can’t fish — and (more importantly) where you probably should.

Sully also told us the he was catching fish, but if I revealed where and how, I’d never hear from him again. Sorry kids. See you in the nomex firesuit, Tom Chandler.
