We previously posted about the astonishingly limited $30K Airstream Basecamp trailer and the other big-dollar trailer for x-treme dudes , so it’s only fair we post some GetOutdoors-provided news about a little pop-up tent trailer that falls more in the Trout Underground’s price range (except at $6,000, we can’t this afford this one either).
Going on sale soon, the 700 pound Sylvan Sport pop-up trailer sleeps two, and includes racks for things like bicycles, canoes, etc.
The company’s calling it a “backpack on wheels” and suggesting the pop-up trailer design is ripe for a little innovation. As always, the Underground stands ready to provide brilliant insight into the product — should the manufacturer decide to give us one for testing.

Oh yeah ! A 700lb Backpack with tiny little wheels. Just what I need. Doesn’t towing a
trailer restrict you to a legal speed limit of
55mph ? And how fast would you WANT to go with
those little tires ?
Wonder how much longer it would take me to get to Dunsmuir dragging one of those things ?
Think I’ll just stick to my little pickup with
low shell and a tent.

In college I took a class from a bunch of guys that worked for a top design firm. They spent months researching something exactly like this. They came up with some SUPER COOL ideas about how to make pop-ups likeable to the more modern outdoors crowd. Most concepts were like this, basically a backpack on wheels, big mud tires, rakcs for gear etc etc. Far from the drab 1970s hotel feel of most RVs.
The RV company shelved the idea, in favor of the same old same old. This could be it finally coming out…

That’s just what I did for a long time. First a 1990 Camry (Camrys were a lot smaller then), then an ’04 Corolla. With judicious site selection (and a BIG Blue tarp) I was quite
comfortable, even winter Steelhead camping.
‘course there WAS the time a tree fell on me
during the night but that’s another story.
I gave the Corolla to my daughter as her first
car and got a Toyota Tacoma with a low camper shell for fast camps where you just crap out in the back of the truck. Also enough room to
carry an inflated float tube or small pontoon
boat. Also with a roof rack I can carry a canoe. Don’t know how well 16′ canoe would
fit on top of a corolla.

I drove all over the place in my 1989 Bronco (which still barely runs — I drive it in the winter). It was great for getting places, but hell to sleep in.
I wonder how adept the SylvanSport trailer would be at rutted roads. The wheels might be a bit on the small side.

I really like the looks of it, but I”m weary as to it’s durability. I think something from http://www.adventuretrailers.com is more appropriate(probably overkill) with were I go.

Ok so they made a tent on wheels. Its less desireable to the fact most camp sites I see limit you to where you can park with any size trailer, even if its a matchbox like this one. I think its price would even be more of a deterant. Oh well.. make a teardrop with a pop up and slideouts and then maybe you might have something? Cool looking but unpractical….
