The Downeast Lakes Land Trust — a nonprofit dedicated to preserving Maine’s wild places and rural sporting traditions by buying property (and obtaining easements) — is raffling off a Grand Lake Canoe and trailer. Only 200 tickets will be sold — and you can buy a chance to win for only $20.

Yessiree, that’s a deal. A bargain. An opportunity. To get your ticket (and how could you say no??), call 207.796.2100. Take us for a ride when you win, right?

Where can we buy tickets? I know our man Sraq back east would be in to buy a few.

You gotta call: 207.796.2100 (EST).

It’s a low-tech operation. I don’t know if the Land Trust office is open this weekend.

Just found this website and the post of the grand laker raffle. Wanted to let you know my Dad won the boat!! Most exciting thing ever.
Dad and I will be fishing it in Big Lake in May…

Damn you islandbob — that Grand Laker was rightfully mine! (Ok, actually damn your dad, and enjoy the boat. They’re fun.)

Dad had Brad Bailey fix up his grand laker. Brad did an incredible job, even putting his last name in the seats. We fished Big Lake for a week, catching over 100 smallmouth, pickerel, and perch. I think we were the only boat in the lake as most were fly-fishing the stream for salmon. What a boat!!! Dad didn’t want to put it in the water, just hang it over his fireplace!

islandbob: Excellent, though I get the impression you might still be taunting me just a bit.

Are the blackflies eating everyone alive yet?

As for the canoes, they’re just handmade enough to be beautiful, but the green glass skin and other useful touches prevent them from crossing over into “showy” territory, which no true Mainer would tolerate.

Can anyone give advice as to where to search for a builder for Grand Lakers and where/how to locate
one for sale?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
