The Amazing Stupendous… Fish Pen?!

by Tom Chandler on June 26, 2007 · 8 comments

From the warped spaces over at Moldy Chum comes yet another fishing infomercial that will change your life and alter the way you view the universe!

Or not. It’s really up to you:

If you’re like me, you’re just waiting for the fly fishing version (which will cost $585 instead of $39, though it will be made from rare Unobtanium instead of that cheap, bait-slinging “alloy”). Sure, it’s no Rocket Rod — the best combination child’s fishing rod and assault weapon ever made — but it’s what we’ve got this morning.

As always, the floor is yours.

The fly rod version would be great when your on the golf course and pass by some of their nice fishing ponds. Quick couple casts between holes and you could have the best of both worlds at the same time (and not get caught too)!  (Quote)

But what do you do if the fish are biting? Abandon the round of golf?

This is the danger of combining anything with fly fishing — what do you do if the bite is really on?

This is why I advise men not to fly fish the morning of their wedding — do you honestly think “sorry I’m late to our wedding, but the damned Green Drakes started coming off…” will fly?  (Quote)

Sadly, not yet. If they did, you’d see it here first.  (Quote)

So what I’m wondering is before I buy one for my husband – is it worth spending $29 each for these things. You get one if you buy one but you have to pay s&h. That comes out to $29 each. Kind of a lot for something that might not really stand up to the weight of a fish.  (Quote)

I would have to say: ‘no.’ Unless you were looking for a gag gift.  (Quote)

Sometimes a Flyrod version IS available [see ebay]. A spinning one is [very rarely] available]. All rods are the same but the spincast reel leaves a lot to be deisered :[
The rod itself is surpisingly good :]
With a modified, to fit, ultralight spincast,[or underspin] it’s an awesome rig for a small stream !!!
Lots of shiners, perch, sunfish, pickerel, and a few Trout [including one 14" Brookie] have been a real blast !!!!!!!

To modify another reel to fit the Fish Pen:
Remove the reel foot from the FP reel.
Drill a couple holes on the other reel.
Bolt it on.
With a little thought and planning, this should work with any reel. [Fly of course, also spincast, underspin, etc,]
This makes it a much better rig and is great for anyone who likes to modify [or fiddle with] things ;]
