Extreme Makeover, Drake Style

by Tom Chandler on June 5, 2007 · 6 comments

Not everyone actually loves the Drake, but let’s face it — it’s still fly fishing’s most interesting magazine.

The remodeled Drake Web site

This year’s issue seemed to abandon its counter-culture roots a bit, but hey, stunning photography counts for something. And wow — look at all the advertising (Not everyone wants to live on cheap beer).

Is the Drake in danger of going mainstream? Hell, at one issue per year, who can tell?

Moldy Chum tells us the Drake remodeled their Web site, something that interested the Underground because we’re doing the same thing.

I’ll be honest; I don’t spend time at the Drake bulletin boards. They’re a bit on the, err… unguided side, and frankly, I’ve got too much to do to waste my time on low signal/high noise message boards.

Still, the new site looks nice enough, and the Drake is on the same side of the river as we are; Fly Fishing’s supposed to be fun, but you wouldn’t know it to look at most of the industry.

See you at the funhouse, Tom Chandler.

Well then, How about “Where’s my friggin’ magazine”
for 102 pages ?
Not my idea of an imaginative, intelligent website.

Every time I think of firing up a Trout Underground message board, I visit most of the fly fishing efforts. Changes my mind.

Still, some interesting things in the works right here in fly fishing blog world. Stay tuned.  (Quote)

Yawn.

Poking the Drake three months after the launch of the new site is news?  (Quote)
