Via the never-sarcastic crew at GetOutdoors (who got it from the NY Times), we learn of yet another way to get away from it all by leaving absolutely none of it behind

Design Within Reach, the furniture retailer, is collaborating with Airstream to develop a trailer for the mobile young modernist —“rock climbers, surfers, dot-com guys,” said Christopher Deam, the San Francisco architect in charge of the project, “who want to work anywhere with cellphones and wi-fi connections.”

I’m not sure how many rock climbers or surfers could afford a $50,000 glam trailer — even one with built in wi-fi — but I’m reasonably certain you’d get your ass kicked if you showed up at the climber’s village in Yosemite in one of these things.

I’m still waiting for the camper with the built-in rod racks, fly tying nook, wader hangers, mobile insect collectors, “thousand fingers massage” bed (for when I’ve fished too hard and can’t get out of bed), and built-in chef/valet/servant (because I’m lazy).

That might be worth 50 grand.

Of course, with Airstream still unable to provide a replacement window to Chris Raine nearly a year after he broke one, you’ve gotta wonder how you’d get parts for this baby after your fishing buddies demolished it after a night of drinking.

The Undergrounders, of course, are free to suggest other amenities. I’m sure the RV world is listening with bated breath.

See you at the trailer park, Tom Chandler.
